The following information is from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission report on fireworks related deaths and injuries for 2005:
"Fireworks were involved in an estimated 10,800 injuries treated in U. S. hospital emergency departments during calendar year 2005. . . The parts of the body most often injured were hands (estimated 2,000 injuries), eyes (1,600 injuries) and the head, face and ear (1,300 injuries)."
Based upon those those findings, it is reasonable to assume that during the Fourth of July weekend Ohioans have suffered a proportionate share of nationwide fireworks injuries including perhaps, loss of digits, and eyesight.
