My biggest problem with vouchers is the same problem I have with NCLB: Private schools can be selective in who they accept, public schools are stuck with everyone they get.

When I'm pulled over I keep my hands on the steering wheel until the officer is there at the window.

The seat belt stays on, and the window stays rolled up. I don't reach for my wallet or registration without stating that I am doing so first.

Does it waste the officer's time? Perhaps. Does it reduce the chances of me getting shot by an officer whose nerves might be frayed? I can hope so.

Mr. Melnykovich, what a wonderful message. I remember feeling similarly in 1989, though I never expressed it as well as you have. Your letter should be required reading for the whole country.

Another one. Big surprise.

Is *anyone* keeping track of these fires? I'm serious. It seems that every night brings another vacant house fire, particularly on the South Side. Are there patterns, in terms of cause, ownership or specific location?

It may be a convenient way to accelerate the demolition of these vacant properties, but it sounds mighty dangerous to the firefighters and to the folks living in the surrounding homes.

That is so wrong.

Plow down the abandoned properties to improve the town, sure. There's no need -NONE- to be tearing down a working structure.

Did they even offer to buy him out first? This shouldn't be allowed. Eminent Domain is an excuse for some large entity to bully a smaller entity out of something they own. Might not have started that way, but that's what it has become.

They need to pay the guy not what some jury thinks it's worth. They need to pay the guy what it costs to get new, better property with brand new building and all the fees and moving costs PLUS extra to compensate for any lost business during the move. And even then only if the guy agrees to it.

Bullying on a municipal scale.

Oh for crying out loud!

Where are people still getting these crazy ideas?

Like the idea that "different" equals "diseased"? You want to help people who are truly sick, see what you can do for those kids at the children's hospital.

Or the idea that someone would choose to be gay as a lifestyle choice? Who would actually choose to be gay, given the levels of persecution from the so-called "righteous" people?

And where do the hyper-religious get off trying to pretend that they themselves are God and must put others down in his name? If God wants to smite people, he's plenty powerful enough to do it on his own.

As for myself, I am who God made me. I happen to be heterosexual in a heterosexual marriage. My life and that of my family is in no way shape or form threatened by the existence and co-existence of gay people.

McCain didn't want 10 debates. Instead, he wanted 10 town hall meetings like the ones he held during the primaries.
