Four parents apologize for Mooney cigars and champagne

To furnish alcohol and tobacco products at an event that minors was at was not premeditated in this case?It is a criminal offense for a minor to be in possession of these items whether the bottle is opened or closed. I guess the people that were spraying the champagne and putting unlit cigars in their mouths were of age? Obviously since no charges were filed. In that instance the players that were in possession of the alcohol were 21, I think it is against OHSAA rules to have someone play that age. It is a black eye on high school football in this area. It would not been a story if the proper things were done.

Reports of alcohol at Mooney probed

Basically, supplying a child with tobacco and alcohol is against the law. There is visual evidence of the tobacco use and there should be repercussions. I dont care what school is involved it is against the law. So why all the exceptions, exemptions and excuses. Mooney's administration is doing the honorable thing, not a bandwagon, knee jerk, sweep it under the rug type of thing. In addition, if I were the football coach the 41 kids that took a the day off as an unexcused absence would be doing something at the school showing support to the administration that funds the football program and makes it possible for the existence of the program. Showing the disrespect for authority further polarizes the program and the widespread opinions that athletes are above the law

Police defend K-9 in attack on 8-year-old

One word, NEGLIGENCE, the officer should be reprimanded and suspended. The explanation of the police chief is unacceptable. We know what those dogs do and to have one unleashed that should respond to a verbal command not chase and attack any human that is running is dangerous. That is traumatic for the child and family.

Feds charge Antonini with concealing campaign gift

This is the most stupid thing I have seen in a long time. Your freedom is worth $3000.00, how stupid can you be. I forgot this is Mahoning County, still stuck in the 50's and 60's when it comes to politics. To have the chance to be sent prison over the cost of a computer or a used car. How far can $3000.00 go. Do the math $68000 a year versus $3000.00 and a possible jail sentence, PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!! Only in Mahoning County, DUMB!!!!!!!!

SO CLOSE, YET SO FAR || YSU football year in review

The coaching staff overestimated themselves and underestimated the opponents. Putting in defensive schemes that the players could not understand. Blitzing when you had no secondary, if this team played a vanilla defense letting the athletes talent take over, it would have been at least 8-3. For the offense to put up that type of numbers and playing a high risk defense is coaching suicide. More talent isn't going to help, better schemes on defense will be the answer

Ursuline begins quest for 3-peat with win

Some of the athletes are on reduced or full aid, I know for a fact one player's mother cannot afford to pay due to the fact she doesn't work. The recruiting is a moot point due to the age and success of the programs. Sure their "friends of the programs"go out and talk to city kids in junior high. But with the overall success of the programs are the biggest recruiting tool. If Chaney or East was winning state championships in football, the kids would go there. But the turnover of coaching staff at public schools and the stacking of athletes at the two parochial schools that are playing in Divisions well below their talent level hollows their accomplishments. Beating up on kids from small rural communities that may appear in the playoffs sporadically. The championships I recognize are the ones Mooney won when they were a Division I participant. That was an accomplishment what is going on now is blasphemous and hollow. Most public schools athletic participants reflect the overall population of the school, I'll leave the rest to one's imagination.

NOT AGAIN!

Whatsnext comments are right on the money. The college game even at this level is more complex than the highschool game. It is going to take the secondary coaches a little while to get up to speed. You are playing FCS football not OHSAA Div III football. The coaches are used to having far superior talent at the high school level and don't understand at this level you have to coach and evaluate talent better. Just because you coached a kid in high school and knows your concept doesn't mean he's the best fit because he is not used to playing at this level. I watched the Western Illinois game and missed tackles in the secondary and blown coverages occur on weekly basis. Coaching has to be at premium at this level and the collective experience at the college level for both coaches began in August. High School and College football is dramatically different in the talent level of the athlete. This secondary coaching staff has yet to grasp this due to the level of talent that is currently on the field.

Teenagers charged in assault plead innocent

This could have been avoided if the "adults" would have contacted authorities immediately.14 boys standing on your front lawn at 1:00 am in the morning in t-shirts and sweat shirts aren't there to solicit a magazine subscription. I don't pretend to know the order of events but no one should have left the confines of that home. Mr Malavasi's son has been charged with assault, that's where it should of stopped. All people involved are lucky no one suffered paralysis or death or there would be some severe consequences to be paid. As to the defence of CMHS and CHS, this a maturity issue not an education issue or neighborhood issue it's a direct reflection with regard to the mores and values installed to the participants through their upbringing and that includes the adults. As a parent, you would not come up to my doorstep and fight my son, I would ask you to leave and then inform authorities if you refused to do so. I believe at 1:00am there are at least 4 cars in front of my house with 14 young males marching toward my residence, this can't be good.
