Another frustrating finish ends YSU season

valleyred,
I think if you check the league results weekly you will see that all league games were close. None of the teams had a good defense. To say that Wolford is responsible for 6 point losses would mean that all the other coaches should get the same credit. Fact is:we are dead last.
Also 18 of the regular offensive players this year were recruited by Heacock. I think the offense would have been fine this year under his leadership.. More importantly, many of the defensive players who are not here any longer or left on the sideline might have played for Heacock. Since Heacock is known as a defensive coach, it is possible that under Heacock we might have been an improved defensive team.
All of this is conjecture of course. It is possible that Wolford will produce a winning team. Neverthless, those who are so critical of Heacock cannot possibly say this was a good year for Wolford. Even he gave himself an f for the year.

Another frustrating finish ends YSU season

I see no reason to be overly optimistic at this time. I don't think we will know much for at least 2 more years. Recruiting will be the answer. I do have some concerns as I look back.
Is it possible that Coach W. uderestimated how difficult it will be to win in this league?
Is it not possible that there were experienced defensive players on the sidelines who were bypassed in favor of playing freshmen who were not ready?
Is it not possible that coaching decisions may have had something to do with this team finishing last, even lower than predicted?
Based upon critical comments about players from time to time, does the coach need to work on respect and maybe some humility?
Please understand. I do not have any reason to believe that this staff will not be successful. Time will tell. I do wonder, however, if they had this season to do over, what would they have done differently.

NOT AGAIN!

Did anyone really believe at the beginning of the season that we would be the worst team in the conference?
The coach said his team was disrespected by being picked 7th in preseason polls. Guess what--we are dead last!
He also said after our win over S. Ill. that we we would now be the hunter instead of the hunted. Wrong again!
The point is -rhetoric means nothing.
The league this year was weak. Every team could score, but no one could play defense. This was a rebuilding year for many teams and I expect it will be much harder to win next year.
Also, just because we have freshmen on defense does not mean they will become very good players. Time will tell. I do know that we had 2 experienced safties on the sideline who did not get sufficient playing time. Were we rebuilding with freshmen when veterans might have made the difference on defense?
Also, Rick, both secondary coaches are rookie college coaches, and I do think that does make a difference. The college game is way more complex.

Another day to scream

The defense is absolutely terrible. I believe this team is more talented than last year but always finds a way to lose. I have no confidence that next year will be any better! What great recruits do you see so far that have made a difference in this year's team? The best players on this team were brought in by Heacock
