Don’t let people feed the park geese, ODNR warns

So what scientific evidence is actually behind this feeding thing? Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Vancouver SELLS bird seed to feed all the birds. People feed the geese in Stanley Park. In Huntsville, ALabama, Big Springs Park they also sell birdseed to feed their geese.

No, this is just a condescending move by the DNR...and maybe their conscience is bothering them because they are responsible for the resident goose populations in Ohio.

"Before 1950, Canada geese were only known as migrants and winter visitors to Ohio. In the early 1950s, the Ohio Division of Wildlife initiated a program to establish resident flocks within the state. These introduction efforts were immediately successful."

And by the way...nobody noticed the geese were laying eggs and having babies...nobody thought ahead and thought...maybe we should start addling eggs?? These are the 'experts'?? Pathetic.

MEDIA RELEASE: Egg Addling Controls Goose Population

“In a continued effort to control the Canada Goose population in the Okanagan Valley, the Okanagan Valley Goose Management Program is about to begin its annual egg addling program. Over the PAST SIX YEARS, this program has prevented the exponential increase of the non-migratory resident goose population that inhabits the valley all year long………Since the program began in 2007, approximately 7,700 EGGS HAVE BEEN PREVENTED FROM HATCHING THROUGH THIS MINIMALLY INVASIVE APPROACH…. ….In order for the program to succeed, new nests need to be identified. The PUBLIC IS ASKED TO REPORT lone geese, pairs of geese or nest locations on private or public land.”

In addition to ground surveys, aerial surveys were conducted in 2007 and 2011 to estimate the number of geese residing in the Okanagan Valley and to determine what proportion of the population were hatched that year. THE CANADA GOOSE POPULATION APPEARS TO HAVE STABILIZED THROUGHOUT THE VALLEY.

...the Okanagan Valley is as large as the entire state of New Jersey..and egg addling worked to stabilize their goose problem. This is the HUGE difference between Environment Canada and Americans DNRs, DEC, USDAs.

Mill Creek Park has become a death camp for beautiful geese

Nobody is walking around in goose poop in my photos and if you saw that you need to wash your glasses.

And what 'native species' in your parks do geese crowd out? Bears, coyotes, wolves?? Dogs?

And as I pointed out...egg addling works to manage their population.

And fancy this...look where these Canada geese came from...they were planted there by humans.

"Prior to the 1960s, Canada geese were present in Ohio only during spring and fall migration, and they rarely nested.

A successful re-introduction of a generally non-migratory race has allowed for Canada geese to nest on many water bodies in all 88 Ohio counties."

Mill Creek Park has become a death camp for beautiful geese

I live in Vancouver, BC, we have tons of permanent resident Canada geese. They did not stop Stanley Park from being named Worlds Best Park in 2013 and 2104 or stop National Geographic naming Vancouver as the world's 10th best beach city in the world.

I have no idea what Americans do to their Canada geese because they aren't leaving piles of poop here, don't attack children and the aged and infirm, and they are really more civil in our public spaces then many people, their kids, and their dogs and they don't leave non-biodegradeable crap lying around like I found in our park the other day after Canada Day.

Very sad that in the 21st century someone didn't notice geese having babies two or three years ago and do some research. Just shows how little someone values another innocent creature's little life and their suffering.

And did you know Canada geese are role models for humans?? They certainly have more character than the thugs that killed them.
