Evangelical pastor charged with raping mentally handicapped girl

The trial of 59-year-old former Evangelical pastor Ronald Lee Pyles Jr continues in Mahoning County OH. Testimony was heard on January 7 and 8 before Judge James C. Evans of the Common Pleas Court of the Ohio jurisdiction. Pyles waived the right to a jury trial on charges of rape and gross sexual imposition upon a mentally-challenged young woman. Prosecutors say that the former pastor of Victory Harvest Ministry in North Jackson OH the former pastor committed various sex crimes at the church between October 2010 and March 2011. Victory Harvest Ministry serves primarily alcohol- and drug-addicted people while it also provides temporary shelter to homeless people.

Pyles’ accuser is a young handicapped woman who was living at a shelter sponsored by Pyles’ church. The victim took the stand on January 7 but declined to be videotaped or recorded. The woman testified that Pyles touched her inappropriately and performed sexual acts on her upon several occasions. She was 19 years old at the time. Witnesses supporting the prosecution included case workers from a local mental retardation agency and children’s services. One case worker testified that the victim very much admired Pyles and looked upon him as a paternal figure. The witness said that the woman is now very ashamed of the matter.

A therapist who testified in the case said that the victim trusted Pyles and did not want to bring opprobrium upon him or his church."And I think she wanted to protect people she thought were protecting her," the therapist said.

“Ronald Pyles is a sick and perverse individual, who sexually abused a mentally disabled 19-year-old girl during a time when he was entrusted with her care,” said Assistant County Prosecutor Natasha Frenchko.

The main witness for the defense was Pyles himself. “This young lady has been manipulated into this testimony,” which emerged three months after her last contact with anyone from the church, said defense counsel David Gerchak to the court. "Based on the testimony I've heard here today, I need to testify about the truth as far as I'm concerned,“ said the former pastor to the judge. Pyles spoke to the court about his former life before the trial was adjourned.

Casey Anthony asks for change of venue

... You're pure and simple, Lifes2Short. Show me a quote from my comment that causes you to believe the media has me brainwashed? I will bet cash that you have no logical response to my challenge, if you have any response at all.

Casey Anthony asks for change of venue

....... My gut always told me that George Anthony, the ex-cop, was behind making a mess of his whole family and causing the the death to go unreported. In my considered theory he tried to cover up it all up in the sacred Valley tradition of 'protecting the family name'. You all know exactly what I'm talking about.

Outbursts disrupt sentencing of woman for Youngstown cop assault

..... short,

Then maybe you should take some accountability for perpetuating the root of the problems you now complain about. Sounds like you've done zero to level the playing field. If our race's whip crackers had paid the Blacks for their labor, instead of working them for free ... then they'd have had the same opportunity for at least as decent an education as has been available to us 'for generations'. I'm not blaming EVERYONE, cracker ... just you, who doesn't have the insight to recognize whose daddy's to blame for your current problems. Why don't you quit complaining and do something positive to better their and, by extension, your conditions.

Check your comments, you Youngstown redneck scum. This is the last straw. There's no surprise that you've been dead in the water for decades. You deserve all the poison air and water now stinking up your guts and lungs. Plus, all you disgracianos are dragging the reputations of the good Y-town folks down the toilet with you. Your numb-skulled nasty blabber about your fellow human beings is disgusting. Eat your cancer, you dopes. What goes around comes around.

A supremely important day for all sides on health care

--- Unfortunately we're going to have to wait and see how it all shakes out. If we get money out of politics then there will be no incentive for politicians to cater to insurance companies and other such corporate slime.

A supremely important day for all sides on health care

--- I'll take the ACA for the time being ... but I hope this reform will eventually evolve into 'single-payer healthcare' paid for by long overdue tax hikes on the rich, closing of tax loopholes, and doing away with taxpayer funded corporate subsidies. The mostly Republican politician lackeys of the rich can only continue screwing us if we keep on believing the lies they tell us in their TV ads.

Ceremony in Youngstown focuses on abuse of elderly

Abusive guardianship harming the elderly is the larger concern of course. However, one or more of a parent's grown children, other than the guardian sibling, are harmed by extension. While the appointed guardian child pilfers from the living parent's estate, one or more of his/her siblings are left without their rightful share of property and money when the parent dies. All of these shenanigans can be neatly legally packaged by one child with legal know-how.

In addition, legally sophisticated wealthier children realize that they could be responsible for a parent's unpaid nursing home bills. This encourages them to convince the parent, sometimes using undue influence, to sign over property to one sibling, 5 years prior to nursing home entry, in order to qualify the parent for Medicaid and thus escape financial obligation.

Thirty states, including Ohio, currently have filial responsibility laws. These laws make adult children responsible if their parents can't afford to take care of themselves. While such laws are rarely enforced, there has been speculation that states may begin dusting them off as a way to save on Medicaid expenses.

21 states allow a civil court action to obtain financial support or cost recovery, 12 states impose criminal penalties on children who do not support their parents, and three states allow both civil and criminal actions.
