Concern over fracking in the park

Fracking is a dangerous process, but please dont take my word or it, research it yourself. To say that anyone against fracking should stop driving is ridiculous. While we all wish that there were more efficient ways to get around the technology just isn't here yet. For all we know the writer drives a hybrid. Fracking on the other hand, contaminates wells, our drinking water and our streams. In addition, in other parts of the world it has been proven to cause earthquakes. How many earthquakes have we had here lately? A LOT!! 7 to be exact, which isn't exactly normal as anyone who grew up in the Mahoning Valley knows. From what I understand they are trying to determine if fracking caused the recent quake in Oklahoma City and it is looking like it did. But again, don't take my word for it, do your research and decide for yourself.

Gas well fracking safety

These facts simply are not always true. The chemicals used in fracking don't even have to be revealed to the water treatment facility. Cancer causing chemicals have been found in drinking water close to fracking sites in many instances. The one percent of the chemical mixture used to frack is dangerous and besides, THE CLEAN WATER GETS CONTAMINATED by chemicals in the earth also and can be radioactive after the process. Fracking has been found to cause earthquakes in many areas of the world. We have had 7 with local epicenters since they started fracking here. We need to wake up and smell the roses, don't let big business snow us and tell us what is good for us. Fracking is dangerous, do the research yourself, dont trust anyone else to tell you the truth. That includes me! I encourage you to research the process yourself and form your own decision.

Poland board decides to rescind August levy

the teachers did not get a 10% pay raise, check your facts. as far as 85% of $ going to wages that is pretty normal for a place that doesn't produce a product. what else would it go to?

Poland schools stall in releasing public records on salaries

I am glad to see that resident is in the minority here. I have had nothing but good experiences with the high school. The teachers are excellent and also expect excellence from the students. Go Bulldogs!

Poland to try in August if levies go down

Teachers make less $ than people in the private sector and have been feeling the economic crunch just like everyone else. The beginning salary for a teacher in the school you keep bashing is $33,532 while in the private sector someone with a bachelors would enter in right around $38,000 (some sources say as high as $48,000) After twenty years of service a private sector employee with a bachelors degree is earning around $78,925. The teacher in the school system you are bashing with a bachelors degree after 20 years? Around $57,425. Of course we all know that many of these teachers have a masters degree, costing around $16,000. And by the way, the cost of this REQUIRED degree has gone up 60% over a ten year period. Even with the required masters these teachers STILL earn less at 20 years, about $13,000 than a private worker with a bachelors alone. Find out the facts people and vote for them. You act like these teachers are getting rich at these jobs, they are not. They struggle to pay bills and send kids to college like everyone else. BUT they produce excellent students consistantly. You know what else? A high school graduate makes around $30,000 as an entry level salary. Isn't an education worth something? I guess not to many of you judging from your comments.

The negative things about the high school teachers simply are not true. They work hard all day long and as far as the previous comment about natural intelligence, c'mon. Do you really think people in Poland are smarter than elsewhere? They have better teachers, parents and opportunities and THAT is why they score higher on tests.

I don't know how anyone can think they are throwing money at the Poland schools. Look at the figures. Out of 14 county schools poland ranks 9th for the amount it pulls in in taxes. Get your facts straight!! And for that ninth place tax rate your kids are getting a #1 education!
