I voted today....and voted against SB 5....Only because the Republican Party has been a anti union party for years....I have seen the wages of the middle class destroyed and decimated...by corporate greed.....so while unions have their issues too...I feel we need them to protect us against the sweat shop mentality of those who profit much from our labors.....if you are happy with ten dollars an hour and no benefits you may choose to disagree.....but I for one have seen what hardship that places on many....just saying....

To my brothers and sisters at GM be careful what you do regarding your exit from GM. I believe that eventually as the numbers drop in your work population you will see the same results as in the Delphi reduction, The company will make promises to get you to leave and after many have done so it will be possible to pull the rug out from under you and leave you with little or no benefits, each person must decide what is best for them and their families. Be Careful, Trust no one especially Government Motors.
Donna Bobeck and Tim O'Hara make good points, for me Donna is closer to the truth.
It seems both parties however have pursued the same policies, Hank Paulson and Timothy Geitner have been railroading in a tyrannical horror movie style, these people in my opinion border on treasonous and I am trying to remain civil as I process my view on his topic.
This is not likely to go far, because of the great dislike of Unions in the house. In the mind of the congress and senate only they deserve to have good health care and vested pensions after one term. I am not sure if this is just for show on Ryan's part or not, but even though it will effect me and other union brothers and sisters I do not believe it is the responsibility of the tax payers of the country to fund this. The money was there in a special fund created by Delphi and GM, and should have been used for what it was intended,,,,the retirees.
It is refreshing to see some news that there are those trying to do something good for the Valley and the retirees.
Though this will have detrimental influence on us and the entire Valley if all continues as it normally does in bankruptcy cases it is nice to know we did not sit idly by and do nothing to help ourselves in this issue.
I am so happy that I have had the privilege of working in this valley for some 40 years in UNION shops, they have not been perfect but have made it possible to have given my family and my friends families a GREAT life style to enjoy, say what you will about Unions those of us who have enjoyed the safe, clean and prosperous work environments have NO regrets. If that bugs you,,,,,"great",,, you have made my day, I am still able to rejoice even in this temporary crisis, UNION BROTHERS AND SISTERS STAND TALL AND BE PROUD, we and our children have had a good life and we will survive.
I am happy for the local 717 employees concerning their contract being honored by the new owners of the Delphi business, now let's hope the retirees can get a fair shake also. I hope people will remember it was the treasury who is taking away the benefits of the retiree's not necessarily GM.
So the politicians who are to oversee the treasury and give them directives should be held accountable for the out come of this battle.

I was a little disappointed that there was little or no support from the media or city fathers for this meeting, what was made abundantly clear from those who shared information was; the valley will continue to experience more short falls in liquidity if this trend continues as expected. This article here represents a small fraction of the seriousness of the issues the valley can expect if the negativity around Delphi and Local GM continue. I encourage those effected by these recent events to stay strong in unity and never doubt we have always been there for this community, so let the mockers and haters of good continue as they always do and will, let us be true to our convictions and what we have stood for even when it seems all hope is gone and it appears few stand with us in this time of crisis.
