Everyone still on quarters in Ohio (OU, OSU, Cincy, Wright St.) is switching to semesters by 2012, so quarters are effectively done for. I did my undergrad and am doing grad school on quarters and love it.
Actually, those prices are right in line for a multiple bedroom/person apartment in the real world. It'll never fly in an area where property values have fallen below the basement though. Upscale and Youngstown just don't mix.
If it's just slots parlors like Strickland is putting in the horse tracks, 18 is fine. If it's all-out casinos that come with the ballot initiative, then 21. This is exactly how WV had it... the minimum age was 18 when they were all slots, and as a compromise for expanded gambling that came with adding table games it was bumped to 21. Seems rational to me.
block50, Salem's crime problem and empty downtown are real, but have nothing to do with Wal-Mart. The downtown was empty before a shovel ever hit dirt on that building, and the crime has been making its way slowly south from Youngstown for years.
I'm not pro Wal-Mart by any means, but Salem was screwed as it was before that thing ever opened.
They only have to put these common sense things into law because we're too stupid to figure it out ourselves. Obviously it's easier to see cars in the rain (especially when heavy) if their lights are on!
3/4 of the US has had this law for 25 years any, Ohio is just being drug into the 21st kicking and screaming on another issue.
That article last week wasn't even written by the Vindy. Dan LeBatard from the Miami Herald wrote it, and the Vindy ran it. They just published it as an opinion that is out there, they did nothing wrong.

"My guess is that the conversion is going to be quite difficult for you!"
It's actually one of the first lessons in a class I teach, I just felt like creatively pointing out the typo!

Good move, finally cracking down on the real problem!
