Teen’s family: Son wasn’t shot in self-defense

redeye -- One would think people could tell the difference between a teenager's voice calling for help and that of an adult. I remember what my sons sounded like at seventeen and their voices were nothing like an adult male's.

Prosecutor: Willie Robinson's parents to blame for his death

Yes, Janitspace, I can read but if you had read the whole article, you would know that the Trumbull County CSB had this case for a long enough period of time to have known something was very wrong. Even the prosecutor who cleared it of any wrongdoing stated "perhaps" it could have acted more quickly. Lifes2SHORT, life has been too short for a couple of the children who have come under this particular agency's care. If you've read pervious stories about TC CSB, you know this isn't the first time it has dropped the ball and a child has paid the price for it. I said both the parents and the agency failed this child and I stand by that opinion. The parents didn't care if their child saw a doctor or if their children attended school. It was the agency's responsibility to see that those children were taken care of by virtue of the fact that the parents were not, and it should have done so before the family moved to Cleveland. That is its job and that is what it is paid to do. When a caseworker is doing his job the way he's supposed to, the number of children living in the home is known and children are not confused with one another no matter how much they may look alike. One more thing, does anyone know why the family wasn't tracked in Cleveland? If it had been and authorities there informed of what took place here, that little boy may have survived. Sorry, but, in this case, I don't agree that CSB is blameless.

Not everyone loves the parade

The loss of civility is rampant everywhere, not just here in Ohio. As proof, all we need do is read some of the comments posted on Yahoo and other national websites. Anonymity seems to breed rudeness and some people, like those at the parade, don't seem to care how their behavior appears or how they treat others. I no longer go to movie theaters because of the way people behave in them. I don't know that there is much that any of us can do, but what a sad and unflattering reflection of the times.

Teen’s family: Son wasn’t shot in self-defense

Why was this neighborhood watch person carrying a weapon and why did he not back off when the 911 dispatcher told him to? If he wasn't looking to kill someone, what was he doing? A young man is dead and for what? A candy bar? Not a racist and cruelly and unfairly portrayed as one in the media? Yeah, right.

Prosecutor: Willie Robinson's parents to blame for his death

Both the parents and Children's Services failed this little boy miserably. They should all be ashamed. The parents are despicable and Children's Services is derelict. The agency's primary responsibility is to protect the children, not the family, and until the people who work there realize that this sort of thing will continue to happen. How could they not see that something was terribly wrong in that household? How could they not know which child was which? What an abysmal failure of the system.

Bishop Murry’s letter appalling

LovinLife -- I never said that I thought birth control and abortion were okay nor was I trying to pass the decison to engage in one or the other as being in line with Church teaching. I merely stated that, ultimately, the decision to utilize them is a matter of personal conscience; that these decisions come from our ability to make free will choices; and, further, that it is this ability that creates a problem for many American Catholics. The first two concepts are not my own, but are the result of a discussion I had with my confessor several years ago. I did not include all moral choices, just these two, as they are specific to this discussion. However, I do I believe that the gift of free will came from God, the Father, which, I think, is in line with Church teaching. As for accepting Christ as my Savior, where do you get off impying that I have not. For you to presume to know that based on what I said in my posting is not very Christian of you. Finally, who are you to pass judgment on my or any other person's standing in Church.

3 groceries open Thurs. reverse Youngstown’s ‘food desert’

As a businees owner in Youngstown, I am thrilled to see these new stores come into our area. They are very much wanted and needed. For those of you who have expressed negative opinions, do you honestly think this company did not examine our community throughly before committing to opening three stores here? As for the name, my understanding is that is the name. It was not specifically chosen for this area. Finally, my experience with the grocery employees union does not allow me to either support it or endorse its tactics. A few years ago, I worked as a part-time cashier at the Boardman Giant Eagle. Every employee of that store was required to join the union as a condition of employment. I think I paid $50 to join and then an additional $15 a month or so to maintain my membership. What did I get for my dues? Absolutely nothing. In the two years I worked there, I saw the union support every decision the company made no matter what it involved, including things like work schedules, promotions, benefit packages and recruiting employees to picket non-union stores. That experience left a pretty bitter taste in my mouth and forever altered my belief that today's unions exist to protect the rights of their rank and file members.
