As a proud, Episcopalian, 1975 graduate of Ursuline (and 1980 graduate of The Ohio State University--so yes, I did stay home when many others chose to leave along with Sheet & Tube, et. al.), I find the bigoted comments of a neanderthal like Mooney 1993 to be nothing less than an appalling display of religious intolerance, and probably, given his obvious intellectual shortcomings, an eye into the manner in which he views racial minorities as well. In the interest of full disclosure, I am a 52 year old African American male who grew up living, for considerable periods of time, on both the North and South sides of Y-Town, so I both know and admire many individuals who graduated from Mooney, as well as my beloved alma mater. Clearly, based upon his single-minded determination to deprive many of Youngstown's best athletes of the opportunity to participate in, and benefit from, first rate athletic, AND ACADEMIC programs like the ones that have been the hallmark of Mooney and Ursuline for many years (Ursuline over a century), good ole boy 1993 lives in a state of denial. Sorry to clue you in to the realities of modern life in Northeastern Ohio '93, but long gone are the days when Youngstown's most talented athletes had options to showcase their gridiron skills at city schools like North, South, Chaney, Wilson, East, and Rayen. It's not the modern youth's fault that he or she doesn't have as many options to gain a quality education as I did. I could have attended Rayen and probably received nearly as good an education as I received at Ursuline, but my parents sacrificed to pay full boat for me to attend the home of the Fighting Irish. As a result, I had the opportunity to attend law school in California, where I have practiced for the past 18 1/2 years. Don't bemoan the fact that many of these young men's parents want to give them the same opportunities that I had in an ever-declining market. They deserve nothing less--and you should find a convenient hole to secret yourself away from the rest of us right-thinking people!
Ursuline rises over Heights
