As a an Austintown bus driver I can tell you that None of us even come remotely close to making $44,000 !!! The school board just did away with all of our benefits so there is no benefit package now. This whole parachiol busing plan is ludicrous and unsafe. The parents of these students pay taxes like the rest of us and the school system citing financial reasons is another big lie ! Parents need to understand that Austintown administrators and school board don't give a rat's ass about your child's safety, they only care about their fat salaries. They all need to GO !!!!
You can say what you want about bus drivers gettiing benefits but it is a thankless job that most of are doing FOR the health benefits ! We don't make big money either. Why is it that no administrators are ever cut?? Bus driving is one job where you can make NO mistakes EVER, you are expected to be perfect. At the board meeting last night the board members were the most arrogant group I have ever seen and they completely ignored the drivers who were there. What else is new?? Drivers are treated like crap and second-class citizens but if they make even ONE mistake everyone takes notice and wants to string them up!
I wish all the board members were up for a NO vote in November. Pogany has been on it since the ice age. And - Dr. Ritchie seems to think he is above paying admission to sporting events as I was told by a ticket taker that he said "you know where you can shove that" when asked for his ticket to get in to a sporting event. What's up with that?? Everyone who can should go to those meetings coming up in May and voice their opinions.
In regards to tacking on the board offices to the original plans for the new AMS, that is absolutely true and they also added on the extra gym. Now everyone is saying the new school is TOO SMALL!! What can be done about all this poor planning and total disregard for what the voting public thinks? Vote no on any school levy as they are just wasting our money on administrative salaries and perks. I used to vote yes on every school levy but not any more.
I think one of the biggest problems in the Austintown schools is that the Board of Education and the administrators are doing whatever they damn well please and not held accountable to anyone. They moan about having a deficit but yet at least 4 people who work in the board offices got $10,000 BONUSES before Christmas. For what?? The superintendent does not even live here but commutes from Columbus. There were at least two bad days this winter when school should have been canceled and he wasn't even here to see the road conditions. I agree with the person who volunteered to be the super., that person is just as qualified and probably wouldn't get a 5 or 6K gas allowance and just as much for a clothing allowance. And now there is talk of promoting Caloluca to asst. super. for a $28,000 raise????? What qualifications does he have??
