Couldn't find a "5-foot-8 setter", 5-7 defensive specialist, or a 5-9 defensive specialist in "The State of Youngstown"? We have some pretty talented volleyball players in our area. YSU softball takes the same approach! I know SEVERAL area girls who are taking their talents elsewhere at FULL RIDE scholarship programs who never got a sniff from YSU!
People can really make a difference if they can actually work together. This deal smelled fishy from the first time I heard about it on the radio. As time has passed I have wondered, how can this happen right in plain sight. Then I always fell back on the thought of the types of people and their political affiliation and why this valley has been ruined by the greed of a few. Now hopefully, there will be no improprieties or technicalties that will ruin these cases and what I imagine should be more to come. Unfortunately, it would not surprise me one bit if that were to happen!
1970mach. There is only one way to play and that is full go-all of the time. Perhaps you never played, or only played to a certain level, but you never go less than 100%.
You may want to do some research on your claim that Tatum was a "jerk" about the incident. He was deeply affected, and many times there were meetings scheduled between the two players but they were ultimately "screwed up by Stingley's people" and their demands that Tatum pay Stingley for the photo op-among other things. He was also advised not to do anything publicly, out of fear that some legal precedent could come from his statements. Tatum could never give the appearance publicly or throughout the league that the hit affected him-to show weakness or fear, but it did affect him-significantly.
Dear News Home. Let's not get out the Pulitzer yet. How much time did Ms. Wyler spend when she got herself bamboozled just last month for what we can probably describe as incomplete due diligence? Actually, it probably had more to do with her editor and support staff than it did with her efforts. http://www.vindy.com/news/2010/jun/13... I'd be the first to agree that the newspaper industry has been hit harder than most other industries in the past 20 years. The writing is and has been on the wall. Subscriber's will continue to decline. Online news is the wave of the future and it's already here.
For those who can't get past their dislike of others who are different than they are, this post can be skipped.
Interracial relationships are not without significant potential risk to offspring. Many illnesses can be treated by using common "type" of cells, blood, marrow, etc.. Background compatibility can be the difference between life and death.
One of my favorite baseball players from the 70's and 80's brought this to light about 15 years ago. If you care, please read this link-truly a sad story and it made me wonder how thin can we really stretch the "gene pool"? I remember the story because it made me register as a bone-marrow donor.
It is also a big reason that it is important for all of us to know our own factual ethnic and medical histories.
Finally, the simple fact is that the kids today have almost zero notice of racial differences. They just do not see anything other than human beings. Jjust like the milkman being replaced by the Lawson's at the corner, or US mail being replaced by UPS and computers, progress is here-join along or get left in the past.
oldstown, that made me laugh.....and I know it was not meant as a joke! If it takes a group 8 years to raise $600 for a headstone and it all comes from an anonymous donor, the fore-mentioned group should-by law of mankind-be dissolved. Two 7 year-old kids can make that in a slow July selling lemonade for 3 hours a week!
Lastly, the only thing better than seeing the ol' judge in his kilt playing his pipes is having a few rounds of Tullamore Dew afterwards!
Two thoughts-not really related in their conception......
This morning, driving to work, I saw a bumper sticker on a car that said "If you feel guilty and don't know why-You're a Catholic!".
And then I read.......
about one of our area's most corrupt / wealthy families donating a tremendous amount to a local university. I'm sure a few churches will be next! I'm not certain-but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way and you can't buy your way into heaven. BUT-please keep giving, there are good people who can use the help-even if you are all doomed to eternity in HELL!
I felt the earthquake-In our area-no one was swerving and no building were swaying. . Anyone who went home, sent people home or suggested it was appropriate to send people home is ...I can't think of the word or phrase that fits. I guess it would be like taking two weeks off for the flu, but then again -this is the Mahoning Valley. I only hope Leno, Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel-any one of the late night shows can embarrass us with sharing this story on the air. I see there was an earthquake on the Mexi-Cali border. I hope they enjoy their long 5 day weekend.

Can I speak to an investigative reporter?

HITTING HOME
I would imagine that Grace Wyler (the author) has learned a valuable lesson here and will do her due diligence next time she submits for print!
Sadly, too many people were convinced to borrow, borrow, borrow and then decided it was ok not to pay, pay, pay.
If you have the time or the care.....here's exactly what happened over the years to get us where we are now.
