Concealed-carry classes, permits on rise in Valley

Sadly, and by no choice of the policemen and women, our police departments have become mere fund raisers. Our municipalities now push this type of "protection". They use trick speed limits like in 224 in Poland and on I-680. They sit outside our restaurants and bars and they sit in and near our school zones at "peak" times. This gives the appearance of a larger police presence. I want to emphasize they are instructed to do so and I am not taking a cheap shot at our law enforcement men and women! They cant be everywhere but we can stay away from "high percentage bad areas".

Secondly, guns are here to stay. Bad gun owners will always be bad gun owners - we have to hope and pray they are the ones that shoot each other!. Not everyone should be a parent, but my recent tax bills prove that's not the case. Good gun owners make mistakes - I'm not going to cite any examples, we've all seen the news lately. There is an old saying - I'd rather be tried by 12 then carried by 6! So get trained, get educated, get certified and get armed - or not. You still have a choice.

Thirdly, as a long time gun owner, trained on all of my firearms, licensed to carry and I do carry, let me play the devils advocate and ONLY ASK if it is ironic that the uber conservative NRA and it's followers use an arguably liberal interpretation of the 2nd amendment to propagate their agenda. The 2nd amendment says: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed".

We cant get 10 people to agree on pizza topings, let alone how many seats our new racino should have. How can we be a well regulated militia? Who is our militia, the armed forces? the police? the guys with red shoe laces? Just a thought.

Could this be hockey's last season at the Covelli Centre?

This area sucks. There aint never nuttin to do.
You cant compete with the bars and keno or even the casinos within 2-3 hours of here.

but seriously,

Here is the simple fact. People in this area are not going to spend money on an inferior product. I know that comes across as anti-Phantoms, but we do not have a hockey fan culture that will support "anything on ice". The indoor football did not go over well here, the Mickey Monus basketbal league did not either.

They would be better served to have tournaments down there every weekend for volleyball, basketball (girls and boys), gymnastics, and even bowling. What about a combined local band concert from 4 or 5 different schools all playing together. Every kids family would go see that! The country and rock concerts appear to be doing very well, they could do the ice shows, boxing, etc.. YSU boys and girls nbeed to move their games there also. I'm just not ever going to the Beeghly Center-period.

I remember going to the Cleveland Coliseum to see the LA Kings play the Edmonton Oilers in the early 90's for an exhibition game. Maybe the Pittsburgh Penguins could play Team USA here and maybe the Cavs could play Team USA in an exhibition game.

South Side man sues city and five police officers, alleging excessive force

I dont know anythig about Edward Bratton, but if I was any color and told this VINDY VERSION of the story in a room of ANY color people it would sound like a fishy story. We all have to admit we are at the mercy of the vindy however.
1/31/12 was a Tuesday and it was in the low 60's outside-beautiful day. Guy riding his bike at 9am with his dog and the police are worried about his leash? In Youngstown Ohio? i dont buy it for one minute. However, playing devils advocat - no pun intended - does this guy think he is the Tony Montana of the south side? There has got to be more to this story...because if not, these guys could be in serious trouble. I'd love to read the entire report AND complaint to compare.

jcolmon - you pulled out your race card before you even tied your shoes! Why do I have a feeling that if you started talking about racism in a room full of people that really had to deal with racism in their life it would not go well for you?

Chief accuses officer of untruthfulness, fires him

If you really want to appreciate this leech read this version. http://www.tribtoday.com/page/content....

They should fire the people that let him get away with this stuff for years ! I have met a few of Warrens finest over the years -in good circumstances - ( thank heavens after what I have seen on video) and it's a shame, but just like Y town we only hear or read about the lowest of the low.

BCS BUSTERS

I watched the entire game and loved every minute of it! Pitt may have a down year, but they were expected to beat YSU. The 6 suspensions reflected 1 starter and 1-2 possible subs. Perhaps they were a factor, perhaps not. Pitt decided to play short handed anyway!

Now here are the negatives as I saw them. The Penguins punt and kick coverage is terrible. Wolford will have them do it Tuesday and Wednesday this week and maybe nothing else! Defense is better, but they need better play from their linebackers.

The positives are the offensive and defensive lines were outstanding, and the back ups that rotated in played very well. The DB's played very well. The QB, RB's, K, WR's and TE's were as good as they could be at this stage of the season. I cannot wait to see them improve in the coming weeks! The QB needs to tweak his timing with the WR's on the long ball. If that happens, this team might be able to score on any play from anywhere on the field.

It just might be a very fun year down at the Ice Castle. Hope to see it packed again like it used to be.

Death penalty sought in killing of Bryce Linebaugh, 8; Gains hopes case serves as a deterrent

Mr Paul Gains....since 1997 you have had more opportunities to present these turds of turds with a deterrent! As a "victim" of violent crime yourself, I am angered by your piss poor performance as a prosecutor when it comes to violent crimes. That being said, I realize your budget cannot support these long trials it takes to put these sub humans in their proper place. Perhaps you should appoint a special auditor to look over your past, current and future budgets so we can get some more .....and I use this phrase begrudgingly, bang for our buck!

This maybe inappropriate in this chat considering this beautiful boy was murdered for listening to his mother and going to bed. by a person who has no respect for his mother, but George Carlin said it right about capital punishment.
