It's tough enough when life kicks you in the nuts. It's even tougher when it happens in the public eye. But that's the price you pay when you run for a position of power. It happens to everyone at one time or another. It's how you respond in that time that is the measure of the man. Hope the guy gets the help he needs

If they send them through the mail they would need to be shipped as hazardous material. The first question they ask when you ship something is...is there any hazardous material in this container...so no postal delivery.

Any private individual delivering these like phone books would need to display a hazardous material placard and the driver would need to have a CDL to haul over a certain number or weight of these bulbs.

They do contain mercury and if they do break in your home there are specific procedures that need to be followed to prevent you and your family and your home from being contaminated by the mercury.

And anyone that tells you these bulbs last longer than a year or two at the most is a liar. I put a low wattage one over my sink and it burns out at least once a year. I see no difference in my electric bill despite using them in my family room, my hallways, my garage and in two places in my kitchen.

Perhaps they would last longer if you turned them on and left them on 24/7 but wouldn't that just negate any savings?

The Feds are crazy if they allow PA to do it. It will cost too many jobs due to companies moving to places where they will not be forced to pay tolls to move their products. If Pa wants a second turnpike perhaps they should build one and not use federal tax dollars to build their own little profit generators.

The corridor where I-80 runs has been decimated since 1979. Jobs have left. Business has closed. Surrounding roads and bridges would not be able to take the excess traffic that would be forced off I-80. And who is going to pay for the repairs to all the alternative routes that will be beat to death by 80,000 pound tractor trailers?

Perhaps PA should consider building an east-west road that has no speed limit. I am sure there a plenty of people who would choose to travel a road like that. But it would have to be designed as such from the start.

Everybody remember the police car issue where the mayor wanted the cops to have cars they thought were too small for the amount of gear they carry? Mayor got his way. Now police officers drive tiny clown cars.

Remember when the police chief of Girard told the truth about something only to be forced to resign by Melfi? Melfi got his way and now has a b boy in place who licks his boots for him.

Now we have this deal where it takes cooperation, sharing and an agreement between a much larger declining city and a tiny city that has lost all of it's industry to make something out of nothing...maybe. And guess who the d-bag was standing in the way? You got it, D-bag Melfi.

What company in it's right mind would want to move into a situation like that? You got Williams who will try to move heaven and earth to bring this company expansion here and then you have D-bag Melfi. Who over the use of 191 acres of polluted land and about $530,000 difference in an average profit tax is ready to scuttle the whole thing.

According to Melfi the cops were wrong, the chief was wrong, Youngstown city officials, V&M Star, the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber and U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan was wrong. Now he says that the Girard City Council was wrong.

Does anyone in Girard see a pattern here? If Melfi were in a position inside of a real company, trying to run a real business with his views, he would be fired and admitted for a psycological examination.

This is not about jobs. It is about keeping some of the money that flows out of Ohio and into border state casinos.

As far as a casino never being built here...don't believe it. Once the first casino goes up and the cash starts rolling in, the state will figure out some way to put casinos in every corner of the state so that anyone wanting to gamble will have to drive by one to get out of Ohio. They change the rules with a flick of the pen. Something that normal, honest people cannot do.

My wife has two Masters degrees and works in her chosen field. She drives to Cleveland daily. She got a 1000 bonus for being employee of the year last year. Everyone else in the company got a Honeybaked Ham certificate. Now that is the difference between public and private sector!

As a former public employee, to throw 4500 at everyone while raising tuition is just plain wrong. Sure, I would love to cash in but it's wrong.

Knowing the difference between the private and public sectors of work, the line has been blurred. It used to be a sacrifice to work in the public sector. The pay was low, the hours hard but they made up for it in perks and benefits. It's not that way anywmore for many, YSU people included. This was a bad move in these times of economic hardship for so many.

ElliotNess,

A strong elected rep does bring more home than he allows taken away. And if there is a pie that is being divvied up with all of our tax dollars, their job is to bring home as much as they can to improve our area.

This is the way of the world, not a cry baby tactic from Youngstown. How was the bridge to nowhere going to be built in Alaska? How do people get millions to study the toilet seat and the dent it leaves on a human butt?

You may think that Traficant was some sort of noble man for not taking part. My view is different. How can people allow their own family to starve to death while feeding people in Ethiopia? That was the 17 years of Traficant.

Tim Ryan is on the appropriations committee. He works daily to get a piece of the pie for his district. Where was Traficant after 17 years? On a bogus Republican committee thrown to him like a bone after he supported Republican ideology.

Have you ever sat in the waiting room at St. E? I did for 7 hours waiting to be seen. And I had insurance. I had tremendous physical pain. I was told by my doctor to go to the hospital. That was the LAST time I go to St E.

So ever since then, when told to go to the hospital, I go to Northside. Last time I went to Northside, I was in and out within 1 1/2 hours. When I had my back surgery, I went to Northside.

St E. may have fine doctors and I am sure they do. But Northside has streamlined things and appear to be trying very hard to erase a stigma they may have had.

Forum health throughout this valley is an important institution. I needed blood work done, 20 mins later after the script was wriitten by the doctor, it was done at Forum. I needed chest x-rays, 20 mins later it was done at Forum.

If anyone thinks there will be only minimal difficulty if Northside closes or Forum shuts down, they are dead wrong. Youngstown's population may be decreasing but the suburbs that rely on the medical system is picking up much of the population that Youngstown is shedding. A 7 hour wait at St E will be nothing if Northside closes. And if you do need to go, you better lie and tell them you are experiencing chest pains because that will be the ONLY way you will be seen.
