Open Enrollment is a student going from one PUBLIC district to another PUBLIC district. When a parent wants their child to receive a CATHOLIC education, they have no option other than to send their child out of the public district. Remember, we live in the United States and my right as a parent is to send MY child where I want them to attend. I find it essential to my child's development to receive ethical and religious education on a daily basis by religious role models. If you haven't noticed lately Ursuline (and other Catholic schools) far outperform Austintown on any standardized test (AP, OGT, ACT, National Merit etc.) Check the ODE website and compare yourself! None the less, this is not about academics, sports or tradition it is about safety and choice. I as a parent and Austintown resident have the choice to send my child to Ursuline on a SAFE SCHOOL bus, not a WRTA bus.
Think about it, would you want your child to get off at McGuffey Road? In a press conference held this morning, it was clearly communicated Ursuline students would be late for school on a daily basis and forced to walk up McGuffey hill in rain or shine. Is this fair treatment as the law states? Please encourage your elected officials and the Superintendent to make the RIGHT choice to protect children not themselves.
New bus plan to send Austintown kids on WRTA
