i really wonder about some of you. why would uou want a company to fail, that we as taxpayers own the majority? the feds have already given billions to gm and chrysler. it was our tax money. it's a done deal.
now i would hope that gm and chrysler become the most profitable companies in the world. be nice to get our money back with a profit
i cannot believe that calling the steel industry, the auto industry, the tool and die industry was a failed policy. manufacturing is what made the usa the number one country in the world.
pushing paper sounds great. it doesn't take much effort. not much sweat involved. but pushing paper doesn't create wealth; actually producing something creates wealth. the usa is a prime example. it's said that 60% of our economy is consumer spending. what is it that people are getting for all that spending? if you look at the last 2 years; little has been spent on tangible products like housing and autos. one can see the effect on our economy.
i wholeheartedly agree with you. one would think it not necessary to pass a law compelling one to do what common sense said they should. but then after reading some of these comments, common sense seems to be lacking.
oh, one more thing. driving is not a right. it is a privlege granted by law. seems some people are selective in the laws they like.
it is a sad affair when a company can take profits made in the usa and invest overseas; but when the parent company falls on bad times none of this money is brought back into the usa.
delphi admits to being profitable overseas. do they really just want to kill off their usa operations? or do they want to kill of the unions? i guess they don't want a middle class in the usa. unions were and still are the driving force of the middle class. so many people believe that unions are the cause of bankruptcies. how is it then that for some many years enough profit were made to pay stockholders, executive bonuses, cover union contracts and still invest billions in overseas operations?
i remember when the money pit in downtown was proposed. something like $ 26 million was obtained by then congressman traficant. the city had different options on how to spend the money.
for some reason a civic center was the choice. there is no dispute that no civic center makes a profit. all are subsidized by the taxpayer.
i also remember the then mayor, george mckelvy was intially against using the money for a civic center. he instead wanted to use it for improvement all around the city. he was dumped on so badly that he changed his mind.
it amazes me that the mahoning valley has been slowly dying for over 40 years spent money on an entertainment complex. who knows; maybe the powers in charge thought they could entertain the people and they wouldn't realize or care there community was falling apart.
Will you use the Cash-for-Clunkers program to buy a new car?
