Education,

Thanks for the history lesson. Your link to a liberal website that offered the following commentary:

"Opposition to equality continues today; a sizeable minority of American adults remain opposed to equal rights for women, gays and lesbians, and transsexuals."

...doesn't impress. In fact it only further supports my point, which I think you missed. If you think that Congress "altered" the pledge in 1954 because of their desire to be PC... then you are too far gone to reason with. Today, folks alter, change, or cry about anything that they do not agree with. My point is clear, if you disagree with something a group is doing, unless you are being forced to join in, or the group is harming someone, simply don't participate. But don't get your panties in bunch when you do decide to participate ( take Christmas off as a Holiday or Wish someone a "Happy Holiday" in close proximity to December 25th) and others who do believe and consider it a sacred tradition - get upset with you. How many Christians have fought to remove Hanukkah or other religions holy days from advertising or other forms of public dialogue?

So a reader of your website might take away a subtle suggestion that our Pledge should be "all inclusive" and we should change it, as not to exclude transexuals? I wish liberals would devote as much time, energy and resources into fixing problems in this country as they do trying to uncover or create them where they didn't exist before.... they are great at crying "FOUL" but rarely have any reasonable suggestions for a fix.

Quail,

I've read many of your posts, and it is clear that you are very liberal. I am a conservative. So we will not agree on many issues. That said, I think you are missing the fundamental issue conservatives have with "political correctness".

Yes there are far right wacko's and some over the top bible thumpers... but the majority of us "goofballs" DO oppose political correctness. This country was founded on religious freedoms - that means ALL religions. But to change traditions surrounding a CHRISTIAN holiday like Christmas because it may OFFEND a non Christian is wrong. To say the "pledge" without using the phrase under GOD... is wrong. You see we just get tired of people who are so sensitive they feel as if they should "alter" traditions that have been in our faith for generations. I'm not saying you have to be a Christian or believe in GOD.... but if you don't then find a holiday ( ie. Festivus) for You and other non Christians and celebrate it.... Go into work and do your job while the Christians are celebrating.... we're good with that, really. And if you choose to take your vacation days for Hanukkah or Ramadan - please do. I promise there are not Christians ( wacko's excluded) that are trying to change anything about the celebration of lights... because it offends us.

What I'm tryin to say is this.... Political Correctness is not about trying to convert another to your way of thinking... rather it's everybody being a bunch of Pu$$es and feeling the need to OMIT, REMOVE, or ALTER another's traditions or beliefs because some thin skinned douchebag like you might be offended. Get over it. Believe what you want... but don't say the pledge unless you believe what it stands for ( as written).

MTHFR is a genetic clotting disorder

Glad you are on..... took me all of 2 minutes to find this gem - Here is a Left Wing guy who approached a group of "tea baggers" who were being peaceful ( continuing the theme of provoking).

Now this is violent and totally uncalled for, but I still wouldn't call this guy a terrorist...

Enjoy.....

Here we go Cambridge..... I totally expected the bleeding heart response. The fact remains this was staged. The sign didn't provoke, HE did. And before you go too far on the " we can all get an illness.." sob story - Here is a tidbit for you. I HAVE an clotting disorder ( MTHFR) for which there is no cure. I was diagnosed at age 31. Blood thinners for life. Hospital for 5 weeks with no guarantee to make it out. 8 years later, I am managing it. Knowing that at any time it could debilitate or kill me. Not looking for any sympathy, but follow me... I was responsible and got Life insurance in my late 20's. I jumped at the chance to add more (pretty expensive insurance) a few years ago, because of a promotion with an insurer that did not require health screening. So I pay an extra $100.00 per month for supplemental long term disability insurance - so that if/when a catastrophe happens my wife and kids will not be "financially ruined". That's a lot of money for me, but I sacrifice to do it. And as for denying treatment? I work in the medical field ( not an M.D.) and I can tell you NOBODY is denied treatment. So SPARE us the bleeding heart BS. We all have or will have health issues. I don't see us all out there exploiting them for Political purposes which is what this guy did. So in summary, the folks in your video very well could be A-holes, but to say they are terrorists? C'mon. You take a sign that says " I DRIVE A HUMMER - IT"S MY RIGHT " to a "green" Al Gore summit, and plop down in front the the green folks ( mostly dems) and see how you are treated. Probably like sh*t, but I wouldn't classify it as terrorism. Still waiting for some proof of violence and terrorism of the Tea Party from HOPE FOR THE VALLEY...

Cambridge,

That's the best you can do? For starters, I couldn't read exactly what the guys sign said other than he had Parkinsons... But it's evident he was there to stir the pot. Show me what he said to irritate the "crowd" not just their response. He "sat down in front of protestors" - again indicates he was there to fuel some fires.... No walker or wheelchair, and I didn't see the physical signs of advanced or even moderate Parkinsons.....

Back to the point however, let's just say these folks were total A-holes and this guy didn't provoke them, Where is the Credible ( this was on a progressive website who "just happened" to have a camera in place and filming - pure coincidence right?) story of violence and terrorism?

I saw no threats, no violence, and Terrorist behavior?? C'mon now.... I think the one guy was trying to make a valid point about " I'll give you money ( assistance, charity ) but I don't want the Govt. TAKING it. A clip like yours is joke - show the whole exchange and context not the part that makes the people look like they were giving a handicapped guy hard time.... If it were really bad, there would have been much more than 10 seconds of video.... It's no wonder we are becoming a weak country when people don't apply common sense to the BS that is fed to us through our computers and TV's. I call BS.

Still waiting for someone to show me how violent and terrorist-like the tea party is.... All yours showed me was that those folks might have been jerks.... again - I think there was more to that scene than the progressive website wanted all to see.

Hope for the Valley,

I guess I am a "tea bagger" as I am now on the Portage county distribution list. I asked to be added because I was so impressed by their objectives. I was VERY skeptical about even going to a meeting because of folks like you. Let me tell you what I have seen there and elsewhere at TP events. A couple of months ago, at very well attended Portage county TP meeting the organizers invited candidates for the primary from both the Republican AND Democratic Parties for various races in the area. Each candidate what given equal time, introduced without bias, applauded, and asked questions on issues. It could not have been more civilized. In fact, the Dems that had the stones to come into what they thought would be the "lion's den" were treated so well that in conversation after the meeting they stuck around and had cookies and coffee with the "tea baggers" after the meeting concluded. You see, they realized these are ALSO MY CONSTITUENTS. I didn't see or hear anything that was even close to a racist or terrorist word uttered. What I saw was a group of several hundred people who cared enough about the future of their locales, that they got off their asses and went out to hear the candidates, so at the poll they could make an informed decision. I have been to several events since, and you are completely mischaracterizing these folks. There may be a few nuts in some of those crowds, but can you tell me the the Democrats don't have the same? I challenge you to show me one credible report of any of them getting violent or displaying terrorist activity. From what I have seen and heard from this crowd - this is very clear: that type of behavior will not be tolerated. So you can keep name calling and preaching about right wing nuts, but that approach is really giving you the appearance of the NUT. Stick to the issues - have healthy debate. Quit the partisan playbook stuff and enlighten us all on why "your side" is the better choice.... I'll say this, the Tea Parties are researching, studying, and getting ready to debate the FACTS in the fall. They are not on blogs slinging mud. And by the way.... I'm pretty certain that the Tea Party out in Portage and Summit county were supporting Jim Graham anyway. SHOW US SOME PROOF OF RIGHT WING TERRORISM - or learn a new tune please....

Republican hypocrisy palpable

Could it be - Still waiting....

...for your literary genius and more lines like "....a widows mite". For a minute I thought you might actually be mr. de souza on here patting yourself on the back, but reviewing your comments I've determined you must be a liberal college professor.
You obviously had no idea what social security is, and how it works. That's o.k. though, as you are clearly an expert on the demise of the steel industry. So I'd like to know since you feel the current admin. has made so much progress how you feel about these two issues ( see the links below). You see, I could throw sticks and stones and "peacock syndrome" comments, but I would rather deal with facts, and real issues than emotional responses and name calling. So please enlighten us hypocrites on how our govt. is doing with respect to these issues or mismanagement and wasteful spending.

Youngstown #10: Easy to place on the "List!"

I love your first two picks. I commented last week on the Creek, where I like many grew up. Now, you picked YCC - where I worked on the grounds crew throughout college (early 90's). Also worked inside waiting tables, valet parked, and worked the halfway house. My stories from YCC rival that of Caddyshack! No kidding. I will refrain from them however, for the sake of former members and employees alike. #10 green is treacherous! It plays much longer than the yardage indicates - uphill and directly into the wind. Who are some recent club champs? Back then I recall the dominant players as Larry McCall, Skip Backus, and few others but the names escape me. Great course!

Republican hypocrisy palpable

Could it be -

Hypocrite huh? You mean like telling a guy he's pompous etc... for posting his OPINIONs seven times? This observation made from someone who appears to have (166 comments on Vindy.com). For the record, I and others like me don't hate government. We just hate when Govt. takes from us, and spends irresponsibly. That includes Republicans. And yes, I will take my social security, if it's still there, since I have paid into for since I got my first job at 16years old. That's not a handout. In your quest to "un-veil" some code, you took some liberty with my statement, about entitlements that breed reliance on govt. Nowhere did I say ALL. You and your kind would like to paint us as racists, bigots,etc... that don't care about anyone but ourselves. That makes it convenient to hate us, but that's not what I (we're) about. I still believe that we have to care for the least among us.... this country always has. But charity stops being charity when the money is taken. I posted two links one to a fox story about the housing market collapse ( and since FOX is evil), I also posted a CNN story - yet you didn't remark on either of them. I would love to know what you think about our govt. with respect to just those two items? ( posting my pompous 11 comment - I'll await your 167th "modest" one)

Republican hypocrisy palpable

Lets not forget how this all started - Please see this Fox news piece.... Pay close attention from minute 1:25 and how Barney Frank dismisses Fannie and Freddie and how he thought we should give MORE risky loans.... Classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPSDnG... Repubs are just as guilty, because they looked the other way. I haven't lived in the valley for years, but I can't understand why all my friends and relatives back there still support this kind of idiocy. 30 plus years of Democratic power back there and unemployment is among the highest in the country. Just ANOTHER example of why govt. should not meddle in the private sector....
