I stand by what I say. In this area, it is very difficult for women to run for office let alone make it to the congressional arena. I'm not making this up. Just look at our history. I'm sure there are plenty of women who would do a great job but aren't "connected" (or wealthy) enough. As for "boxes", it is a human fact that we box people. "Boxes" exist for a reason and they sometimes benefit us and aren't always a negative. I'm sure many in our area liked learning that Lee Fisher's wife is Italian-American, those of us who are into organics like that Michelle Obama started an organic garden and those of us in Ytown find humor in the "You know you are from Ytown because . . ." e-mails that float around and aren't always flattering. Just my 2 cents as all "comments" are.

Sounds like an excellent, empowering class for young women. It would be especially good for anyone attending college in the fall. It is always good to get some street smarts to help one deal with difficult situations.

I agree that Ryan would be a bonus for the Mahoning Valley if he was in Columbus vs. DC. As for a successor, we need fresh blood and energy to represent the Valley and, dare I say, a woman for a change.

I hear ya' Old Fashioned Mama. I think it is very important for these groups to list their members status (SAHM vs. single mom, etc.), ages, locations and other pertinent information for those of us with limited schedules to know about ahead of time. Most importantly, they need to be understanding when one has a busy life without a lot of backup care (especially when children are very little).

I agree with you Tyler. I went on the discussion board a couple times and saw such vitriol and disgusting (ignorant) comments that it turned me off. The critique of local officials was just downright crude. Good for Todd & the gang for showing that 1st amendment rights doesn't mean they have to allow everything and anything to be published. This is a business, it reflects upon them and go get your own blog at blogspot.com if you don't like it to complain is right!

boardmanneedschange great comment! I have to say that the wack jobs wouldn't be so bad if they didn't constantly comment on every darn article as if they were the authority on everything and then hang onto their negativity like a dog with a bone. I always wonder "Do they have lives or jobs?" with the frequency of their posts. ;)

Stan, seriously, do you have any little children or know anyone with little children? What you have stated is just so utterly clueless about children and their immune systems. I work somewhere with a daycare and it is the norm when children are around other children (whether it be daycare, siblings or playdates) that they pick up any germ that is around. Don't forget, toddlers don't sit at a sink and wash their hands for 30 seconds or have their own anti-bacterial gel in their pockets (which isn't healthy to have anyway).

I can't imagine the "talking to" these kids received at Mooney. Back in the day, Mr. Campbell would have been furious and lectured these kids on behavior that represents their families, their school and themselves.

How about gutting it and making it a venue for foreign/indie films as well as a performance art space. It would be a cool ambiance.
