The Scrappers are a first-rate organization. However, the stadium should have been located in downtown Youngstown, not a mall parking lot. No one builds stadiums in mall parking lots. Carfaro could have been a major contributor to the revitalization of downtown if he would have built the stadium between the bridges where the Covelli Centre also stands. Akron is a great example, they have a beatiful stadium downtown.
Nice article Joe. The YSU administration needs to stop treating the men's basketball team like the football teams red-headed stepchild. I believe that men's basketball can be very profitable. At the minimum, the bleachers need to go...chairbacks need to be installed; secondly, we need a new scoreboard; third, the schedule, especially the home schedule, stinks. YSU (Slocum) needs to schedule a lot better out-of-conference teams, even if most are on the road (you make a lot of money playing these games). Finally, YSU coaches need to be better paid, I think we can all agree on that. The administration needs to step it up, find the money somehow.
Is this a racetrack or simply a casino? I want both to exist but you have to add more seats then the low numbers that are planned. I applaud the commission for stepping up and demanding more.
"It costs about $96,000 annually to run the pool, which makes less than $10,000 annually from admission fees of $1.50 for adults and $1 for children."
For years I've been saying that it's utterly ridiculous that they only charge the above rate. POOLS COST MONEY TO OPERATE! In Pittsburgh, where I live, city pools cost $3 for children ages 3 - 15 (yearly pass costs $15) and $4 for individuals 16 and older (yearly pass costs $30). A family pass for 4 coats $60. Youngstown should follow Pittsburgh.
What about the ice rink? Until the ice rink is brought back the Wick Recreation area will not be what it can be. I expect the Mill Creek Board of Commissioners to find a way to reopen the ice rink.

Another mayor, another arena gamble
Nice job Todd. The Covelli Centre is a much needed facility. It's an anchor for the downtown and I support it 100%.

Smoking fines cost Ohio bar liquor permit renewal
Good! I'm sure there are also a few bars in Youngstown that are walking a thin line.

Mayor takes exception to renaming bar ‘Xclusive’
"We already know we’ve got the light on us because we’re black-managed. Why would I add to that?"
What an idiot this guy is. His place has no dress code, it's a problem bar that needs to close.
