This is always the first thing people that are clueless say, "It's High School Hockey". No it is not!
The USHL is where many future NHL players are drafted, therefore the quality of hockey is right on par with ANY minor league. PLUS, the players don't get paid, so the cost to run a team is cheaper and they become part of the community because they usually live with a host family.
Sorry that Herb ruined pro hockey for Youngstown and you are right that Youngstown drew pretty well under trying circumstances. But please don't put down the USHL just becuase you want the pros.
What a joke! Washington loses the rights to have a team in the building, yet STILL says “I think it’s going to take a strong collaborative between the city, myself and whoever I team up with,” Washington said.
Hello Herb!! Nobody needs to negotiate or partner with you. The city and the building will determine who gets to put pro hockey back in the arena and you will not have ANY say in the matter.
Unfortunately it is too late to join the ECHL for 08-09. So unless you want to wait another year, you could always join the IHL joke. Better travel, but talent level lower so a championship might be easier to obtain.
Better to play in CHL in 08-09 and join the ECHL in 09-10. All Mr. Washington has to do is apply for a franchise and pay the fee to join the ECHL. He obviously doesn't want to pay the franchise fee or he would have announced he was changing leagues already.
Suggest Mr. Washington pay his league bills before leaving.
