badeepster, I understand your frustration, but what can they do about competitive balance that won't create an even more obvious imbalance? Separate playoffs? Everyone will know which one matters and it won't be the one United is in. Wins for schools like United would come with an asterisk for many people, and that's not fair either. Bump 'em up a level so they can beat schools with more students, thus upsetting the system even more?
Here is a fact: Sean Durkin is a great coach, and his records in multiple sports show that. He took very mediocre baseball and basketball programs and won state championships, plain and simple. If he were to coach at United and build a program, within four or five years United would probably be beating Ursuline. I truly believe that because the guy can flat out coach. Give some credit.
Boy, people from Youngstown love to hate. How many bums/losers you know that take the title? Less than 1% of all pro boxers ever get to the level he did. Yeah, he screwed up a few times but I forgot how all you are perfect. I guarantee toycannon and youngstownsteve are both nobodies. Ytownsteve wishing Cronin good luck but dissing Kelly? I expect a little bit more out of my judges and not much out of my boxers, maybe thats the difference. Hurt 'em Kelly, hurt 'em bad!
I was recruited by Ursuline and I sucked at sports. Why? Because Catholic schools are private schools - they have to recruit all students in order to stay in business.
These days, all schools recruit athletes and there are plenty of issues that open enrollment brings with it. If you think recruiting only happens with Catholic schools, you are stuck in the 1980s.
Congratulations Mooney. Your football program is top-notch and your students deserve to win just as much as other schools' student bodies. Go Irish!
Unions did not build America, people did. Just like anything else the everyday union member is typically a good person - it is the leaders who are the problem. Unions are necessary evils. Watch the old WKBN Youtube videos about the decline of Youngstown - unions are great, but jobs are greater.
I have not seen the data, so forgive me if I am out of line but...
Please keep in mind that most YSU 'teachers' are not professors. They are likely assistant or associate professors and there is a substantial pay difference. I would guess the average 'teacher' makes about $55,000.
To become a full professor is an accomplishment few achieve, and it is rarely bestowed upon someone who works 6hrs a week, 9 months a year. COLLEGES CREATE TAXPAYERS! Yes, they also use tax money but in our tax and spend system, we need all the benefactors we can educate.
Also, the "private" sector, from small businesses (Small Business Jobs Act) to huge corporations (tax exempt GE), is all mixed up with the government...just like colleges. Reality? Check.
Good luck getting people to support someone like Ron Paul - he is honest, principled (i.e., actually follows the Constitution) and is not beholden to any special interest groups.
I do NOT think Paul would be a good president because of the intense opposition he would encounter from the ruling parties. He knows that, and you have to give him and his supporters credit for running a campaign to deliver an important message, not to win an election.
The media and both parties fear Paul, even though they know he could never win. His message was ridiculed as extreme in 2008 (e.g., gay marriage, foreign entanglements). Now, all the NEOCON Republican panderers are repeating the very things they ridiculed.
If you disagree with his Libertarian views, I understand and respect that, but try and respect the fact that some people are more impressed with integrity than poll numbers.

Pelini on FBS playoff: ‘It doesn’t work’
"...the best thing about a play off system is it will force independent schools like ND into a league."
That is true, the NCAA should make all of its decisions based on how they will impact ND football.
