Allegiant to charge to stow carry-ons overhead

Dickten said the bottom line regarding Allegiant is that it’s “still a good service. It’s still a good deal.”

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
In the past I have flown Allegiant Air several times for travel to Youngstown, Ohio from the Tampa Bay area. Let me just say that I have never been a great proponent of this lousy airline's service and obscene methods of squeezing every last nickel out of their customers ($10 for a reserved seat, $5 for priority boarding, $15 booking fee unless you book at the airport, $2 for a glass of water in flight, etc., etc. etc), however, due to the convenience of flying directly to Youngstown, I capitulated and used Allegiant, even though the fares aren't as low as everyone thinks.
Just for example, on my most recent trip to Youngstown, March 21, 2012, to attend a funeral, the fare was $178.79 (not that attractive for a one way ticket). The fare for the return flight would have cost me $215.00 on Allegiant Air. So instead of caving in to this ridiculous fare, as well as their crummy service, I opted to use a shuttle service to drive to Pittsburgh ($32.40 plus a $5 tip for the driver) and flew back to Tampa on United Airlines for $124.10 for a grand total of $161.50 (I even had a free glass of orange juice on the plane).
Even though I never held this two-bit airline in high esteem, I have recommended Allegiant Air to friends and family because of the convenience, as mentioned above. So now, what do they do? Instead of improving service, they've decided to screw the customers out of more money by charging for carry on bags. But rest assured, their spokesman, Brian Davis has really shown how generous Allegiant Air can be by stating that passengers will be allowed to carry on a briefcase or a purse-- FOR FREE.
You can bet that I will never fly Allegiant Air again, nor will I recommend it to anybody.
Given Allegiant Air's arrogance, I doubt that it matters to them.

Woman gets six years in killing of Masury teen

If there is a lawyer out there who TRULY believes in justice, he should volunteer to take on this case and appeal the sentence. It is obvious that this woman did not have a competent attorney. She should have been advised to plead "Not Guilty" and gone to trial. Unless there are more facts that haven't been reported, I don’t believe that there is a jury in the world that would have convicted her.

Valley View downs overcomes big hurdle

All parties involved in this endeavor should save their time, energy and money and stop this futile attempt to locate a racino in the area. It is obvious to most of us that the powers that award the required licenses are controlled by the existing casino and race track operators in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. They know full well that a gambling facility located between New Castle and Youngstown would be certain death for Presque Isle Downs and Mountaineer Park. It would also impact the Rivers Casino and the Meadowlands racino.

Regarding John Reardon's comment,
“We continue to spend MONEY that we don't have just to make this building habitable, including expenditures for roof replacement and heating, ventilating and air conditioning improvements."
DO YOU THINK THE COUNTY WAS SPENDING WAMPUM OR BEADSTO KEEP THAT RAT INFESTED FACILITY AT THE GARLAND PLAZA AFLOAT?
At least, the money being spent on Oakhill is for a building that the county owns.

Traffic patterns to be adjusted for festival

Yo Vindy Staff,
Regarding the first sentence of this article,
"The Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Festival, which begins Wednesday evening and runs through Saturday night, will affect some traffic patterns."
Here is a news flash for you;
THERE IS NO OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL CHURCH FESTIVAL IN LOWELLVILLE.
Only Youngstown and Niles has an Our Lady Of Mount Carmel CHURCH Festival in the immediate area.
The Lowellville festival is not a church festival, it is a club festival, giving the impression that it is affiliated with a church. This also applies to the festival that is being held by the IFH club in Girard.
