This comment is in reference to Dr. Chevlen’s letter.

Sorry Doc,
Your credibility went out the window by admitting that you are a consultant to Blue Cross of California.

It used to be, years ago, when you read an article or news story in the Vindicator, you could always rely on the accuracy of the details of what you read. Unfortunately, that is no longer true.
Case in point.
In an article titled “WRTA KICKS OFF EXPANDED SERVICES” in the Sept. 16 issue of the Vindicator (written by the same Denise Dick of this article) it stated the following:
“The door-to-door service, dubbed EasyGo, allows residents to arrange to be picked up at one location such as their home, and transported to another, such as a doctor’s appointment. The cost is $1.25 one way, and rides may be arranged by calling WRTA between one day and one week in advance.”
Now, nine days later, she states in this article, that the fare will be “$3.50 one way or $2.50 one way for seniors and people with disabilities.”
She also neglects to mention the discrepancy of the Sept. 16 article.

So Denise, which of the reported fares is correct?

Hey Bert,
It would be interesting to know which VIP or politician asked all of these letter writers to go to bat for Mr. Tsagaris. It seems to me that some of the letter writers that were named in the Vindy story two weeks ago, as well as the Monsignor mentioned in your column today, wouldn't have a connection to the former Trumbull County commissioner.
You might want to follow-up and find out why they wrote the testimonials.

If Ellwood Engineered Castings in Hubbard is a world-class employer that rewards their productive world-class nonunion employees with world-class wages, decent benefits, and a safe working environment, Mr. Rhoads does not have to be concerned about a secret ballot. Assuming that his employees are content with their employment at EEC, the bulk of them would never sign an authorization card. Therefore, a union vote would not be required. Also, the National Labor Relations Board addresses his concern about the authenticity of signatures on the authorization cards.
As most people are aware, unions are only formed when employees are being exploited. No one I know wants to pay dues to a third party unless there is no alternative.

This is for John Goodwin.
John, I realize that the Railroads of America stopped using cabooses at the end of their trains a long time ago which is probably the reason that you don't know what they look like. Take note that the retaurant you wrote about is not a caboose, it is a refurbished railroad CAR.

On [story] GETTING IT RIGHT

You better go back and check your figures. Three percent of the corrected amount of $103,809 still does not total $16,000. What is wrong with you people?
Let me help you.
From Jan 1, 2006 to Jan 1, 2007; $103,809 times 3% = $3,114
From Jan 1, 2007 to Jan 1, 2008; $106,923 times 3% = $3,207
From Jan 1, 2008 to Jan 1, 2009; $110,130 times 3% = $3,303
Total retroactive $9,625

What is almost as bad as giving obscene raises to government employees, is the lack of our esteemed newspaper NOT raising questions when the numbers that are cited do not add-up. Three percent of $95,000 for 2 years does not equal $16,127. The recipient of this raise is a CPA. He knows that the reported amounts are incorrect. That is probably the reason that he had "NO COMMENT"
This is a good example of how Vindy writers just regurgitate that which they are told.

According to this article, the proposed casino would not make a dime. It states that 30% of gross receipts would go to taxes and the remaining amount (70%) would be given to Clinton County and the other 87 counties at a 10% to 90% ratio (which is obviously incorrect - 70% plus 30% = 100%).
This is typical of today's journalists. They publish their items without analyzing what they are trying to communicate to the readers.
I am neither for nor against the casino at this time. I will take OldManGrump's suggestion and read the details on Issue 6.

Hey Old Man Grump, I take it back. You aren't six hundred years old. You've got to be older than dirt. That makes you
Union and non-union businesses will come and go, and many other things will evolve, but you my friend will always be

Hey Old Man Grump, if you are as old as you are dumb, you must be six hundred years old.
