The truth behind gun violence

Why is it that every other industrialized country watches the same movies and plays the same video games with different results? Why doesn't it happen in Canada? Why not in Japan, where the games and movies are far more violent?

Year later, bin Laden killing remains a decision to behold

Ordering US troops to violate the sovereignty of an "ally" on a 50-50 chance, and potentially provoking a collapse of relations if proven wrong? That's a fairly gutsy call. To say otherwise exposes ignorance of foreign policy. Would any other president do the same? Probably.

Precluding insider trading in Congress was long overdue

What does anyone expect this to change? There are so many loopholes and exceptions, that this law is irrelevant and redundant. Who will investigate? The SEC is dramatically understaffed and outmatched as it is.

Reaction to a levy failure

I never understand what people are complaining about when they cite the fact that schools spend so much on salaries and benefits. It's a building, filled with people. They don't really buy raw materials or transport finished goods. Constantly pointing to that really illustrates that people don't understand the basic principles of how a school is ran. Yes, of course, they should do better at managing those costs. But seriously, the only capital a school has is human capital.

Average gas price in Valley falls 1 cent

A local woman hopes a gas-station boycott will help drive down gas prices.

Patti Gorcheff of North Lima has organized an online petition for drivers worldwide to not buy gasoline April 15.

Gas prices have hovered near $4 a gallon, and some analysts say the price of the average gallon of gas could be $5 by summer.

US president acts to repair relationship with Pakistan

Pakistan isnt part of the "Arab World". They're also a nuclear power that constantly faces some serious internal turmoil. Probably a good time to learn some history and geography before engaging in a discussion.

Romney to release his tax returns Tuesday

The way I see it, the top 20% should pay 20%, give or take. The bottom 20% should pay 0 or maybe just a little. There should be no net income from the tax code. Even the much esteemed "middle class" probably pays just a little less than they should.

Christmas is about Christ

I'm annoyed by all of this "War on Christmas" nonsense. I say it, I hear it, and I've never heard anyone complain. I have Jewish and atheist friends who say "Merry Christmas" to people. It's a bunch of alarmist crap to get people spun up over nothing.

Raising roof on retiring Conflicts heat up over keeping public workers on job longer

Wow. At least you stopped short of calling me a fascist. I admire your restraint. I hope you never require the services of those leeches, nor use any service or infrastructure built or maintained by them. Apparently, level headed debate is beyond your grasp.
