The date of this once-in-a-lifetime event (June 5, 2012) is buried almost exactly in the middle of this article, in a sentence about WHERE on our planet the transit will be visible. Once again the VIndy wins the prize for clever concealment of vital information!
It is well known that Marguerite in the play (and her real-life counterpart in Dumas' personal life) was older than her lover; both actors were exactly the right age for their roles.
Jesus says NOTHING about homosexuality, quite an oversight considering how much of it was going on in the Greco-Roman world at the time. What he does say is that "Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die (John 11:26, People's New Testament). He doesn't say, "Everybody but queers."
Victorian Players earned eleven Marquee awards (see <http://www.marqueeawards.com/rich_tex...>), but they are curiously absent from this list of lucky recipients.
Stan, I don't quite see what you mean by "promote heterosexuality." I'm assuming that you refer to your own urging gay people to come to Christ and be healed. I must confess that if this is your meaning, I do object to it because it encourages a fallacious hope that one can change one's fundamental nature.
I realize, though, that you believe that your promotion of heterosexuality does not deserve criticism from us since you think we do the same thing in reverse. You believe, if I am not mistaken, that the purpose of what you call "pro-gay 'propaganda'" is to entice straight people to forsake their own sexual preference and try a walk on the wild side. My understanding of "pro-gay 'propaganda,'" on the other hand, is that it is meant to promote fairness and to oppose prejudice and oppression, which is a lot different from what I am assuming you believe.
I also have to assume that this idea that I am attributing to you comes from a simplistic understanding of the manner in which the gay and the straight communities maintain or increase their numbers. You said that straight people propagate but gay people recruit. Well, it isn't as simple as that. Gay people like me have propagated; lots of us have children. By the same token, we don't recruit. I think you take this recruitment idea as a kind of axiom, as if there is no other conceivable way for people to turn out gay.
Since axioms are by definition accepted without question, you may never have asked yourself what other unexamined beliefs lie behind this one. For one thing, you must believe that people come into the world either asexual or heterosexual and are thereafter corrupted into homosexuality by the evil machinations of gay people. Please correct me if I am misrepresenting your view, but if I am correctly summarizing it, there is little that we can say to each other, for we are not starting with compatible premises.
It saddens me to think of people so filled with self-loathing as to be able to convince themselves that they now desire a particular kind of intimacy which has always before either left them indifferent or revolted them. I wonder how this works. Sexual longing is a pretty basic drive, but aversion therapy may, I suppose, be able to extinguish it. Does Exodus use aversion therapy? However, replacing one longing with a new one (not to be confused with the desire to have that longing) must take a lot of hard work. Prayer can do this, can it? Can it also increase brassiere size and cause one to grow taller? Heck, if it could just make me learn to like beets, I'd lay aside my skepticism. Until then, though, I have to believe that wishing to have a particular desire (even when fortified by prayer) doesn't make that desire appear. I think I'll limit prayer to spiritual issues.
