I'm from Louisiana, and let me tell you, we know corruption full well down here. We elected Edwin Edwards FOUR times for cryin' out loud.
But here's the thing - Edwards got stuff done. Most folks down here know damn well that if Edwards was Governor when Hurricane Katrina hit, this state would've been organized and stuff would've gotten done, albeit while Edwards was lining his pockets; instead, we got complete incompetence - lives & property were lost while Governor Blanco ran around like a chicken with its head cut off.
It's different when you're incompetent & corrupt, though (see Jefferson, 'Dollar' Bill).
Traficant is more of an Edwin Edwards than a 'Dollar' Bill Jefferson - he might have questionable methods, but he gets stuff done for his constituents.
