@MFC997 your right, we wouldn't let a random attack with no provocation go. It was just the media spin that said that the attack was without provocation. I had some friends that were there...Hagan was running his mouth a bunch of profanities. That part of what happened failed to get into the paper (imagine that). seems like everyone was able to recall specific details of the event...and they weren't able to recall Hagan's words. convenient.
Dorian would not have hit anyone unprovoked. spend some time with him. That isn't his style at all. and remember...there is always two sides of the story. Dorian's side was clearly left out when the media was covering it. read between the lines. Hagan said something that he shouldn't have said. Not saying that he deserved to get hit because of what he said, but he certainly wasn't an innocent bystander who got sucker punched either.
fortunately, all is done now. Dorian has been convicted and justice has been served. I still think it would be great for Dorian and Hagan to meet together at the Lemon Grove to continue to build bridges and build up the downtown image.
@DrGoo there is nothing wrong with speaking up for a friend and a good person. This situation can easily steamroll Dorian. He needs more people standing up for his character.
@sickofjimbo that's interesting...I guess we all are paying for Hagan's trip to the hospital and his time off work anyway. I never thought of it like that.
and as a note...I truly do hope Hagan is feeling better and that he recovers quickly.
Felony assault = $20,00 in fines and 6-8 years in prison.
What Dorian did was extremely out of character for him. I was genuinely stunned when I found out. Dorian acted irrationally for a moment and now has to pay for it for the rest of his life. I know Dorian has been working hard to better his life and not be bound to the Youngstown stereotype, and this is a setback that will be difficult for him to overcome.
I understand that he "deserves what he will get" but Hagan has an opportunity to give this guy a second chance. He has the opportunity to give somone something they don't deserve.....grace.
We have all acted irrationally at some point in our lives. We have all done something that we deeply regret. We all could use a second chances.
If he does have to spend a month in the slammer then fine...maybe some sort of compromise can be reached...maybe the charges can at least be lessened.
I am just asking Hagan to consider at least meeting with Dorian to accept his apology. and...I am asking for a friend, that he find it in his heart to forgive Dorian and if he doesn't want to drop any charges, then at the very least reduce the charges against him.
@DrGoo your very right, there can only be a loser and a loser or a winner and a winner. I have asked on Hagan's facebook if he would consider meeting with Dorian and accepting an apology from him. I have also asked if he would be willing to drop the charges against Dorian.
I have known Dorian for a long time, (I even worked at an orphanage in Tijuana with him) and when I heard about this event I was stunned. This was SOOO far out of his character. I now Dorian's response is something that he feels incredibly guilty about. I also know that is Hagan was willing to accept his apology and drop the charges against Dorian, it would mean a second chance for someone who has been fighting very hard to get out the inner city street thug stereotype.
Dorian is very much a good person who acted irrational that night. This is a situation that could permanently ruin his credibility. Hagan has the opportunity to forgive him and give him a second chance. I hope Hagan takes it.
This was a great article and I thank the author for requesting that the two meet to bury the hatchet.
Hugs, handshakes when Thomas, Hagan meet in court
