Would be nice if Youngstown could see some federal funds like this. Perhaps for a third lane addition for the remainder of I-680 north of South Avenue? It would be a great opportunity to bring construction jobs to the Valley; and from an engineering perspective, bring the highway up to current Interstate Highway Standards, eliminating the congestion and hazardous curves.

These paper ballots are a hassle. The electronic machines were much easier and faster to use.

Lack of discussion is an understatement. Even when their own party's representatives opposed the bill, they simply kicked them off their respective committees at the last minute and replaced them with representatives who would vote in favor of the bill as it was written. The authors of SB5 and the state Republican party have shown no genuine concern for alternative views and have every intention of "getting on the bus" and running over anyone who isn't in support of their goals to take away what limited power and influence working-class people have ever managed to acquire over the past century.

This, along with the proposed sale/lease of the Turnpike and privatization of state services and departments is just the beginning. If this party has their way, the State of Ohio will essentially become a for-profit enterprise that only exists to funnel tax dollars into the pockets of the already-wealthy by 2016. What scares me most is that ordinary middle-class Ohioans actually vote in favor of ballot issues like SB5 and Issue 3, against their own self-interest, time and time again.

Hopefully all that sealant will keep that road in good condition for a long time.

ccwaltripfan: To answer your last question: the same way it did before the Interstate Highway System was built. Long-range freight via rail would use less fuel and clear our highway system of all the interstate congestion that now plagues it. Already-constrained, four-lane 3Ds like I-680 would be used for what it should be: an urban loop for local traffic. When rail used to transport our goods, it would eventually have to be carried locally via truck. But most of the trucks on the Interstate highways today are not doing that, they are hauling goods across multiple states; thus, long-range truck transportation could be reduced by utilizing rail instead.

88 MPH? I'm starting to see a pattern here.

I still don't see how the administration thinks they can impose a contract. If they do, the union can simply strike. SB5 isn't law, and if the union is smart they will stop letting the administration string them along until the SB5 vote in November, and just strike to get the job done.

Good for them. No judge or legislature should abridge one's right to petition or assemble against an oppressive court.

I wonder if it ever occurred to anyone complaining about YSU faculty wages that those wages pay local taxes and contribute to the local economy. If you think we would be better off without the money that those jobs contribute to our struggling economy, let's pay everyone in the Valley $7.40 per hour and see how long local businesses last before their customers can't afford to shop, eat, drive to, or patronize these businesses anymore. Only then, when all Mahoning Valley residents are living below the poverty line and unemployed will the trolls of vindy.com be satisfied.
