The city should seriously consider selling this facility to a private firm. There's no logical, economic benefit to a government being in the hockey arena business.
Frankly people, is this truly bad news? That potential buyers have to pay a reasonable down payment - or pay off their old car loans? As for the disappearance of leases - again, they've never made economic sense. Leases have long been over-used by a public that never wants to pay the real costs for anything. Most of this sounds to me like a return to more common sense.
Sound business principles always held that you borrowed for purposes such as expanding your business - NOT for operating it. Too many business no longer follow this basic concept - and then we are surprised when they eventually fold. A note to local business people: if you're borrowing to pay the payroll, you're already in trouble.
