Youngstown school district at an important crossroads

What 520 jobs were eliminated? Did the state start at the top? Take a look at the successful school systems. Are they as top heavy as YSD?
Qualified leaders? Let core teachers and administration set their curriculum. Many of them (including chairpersons) have master's degrees in curriculum! District curriculum supervisors are a over a quarter of a million (salary and benefits) alone!! What about their support staff (salary and benefits). The house needs cleaned top to bottom. Then and only then can there be a clear vision for improvement.

What are the curruculum supervisors paid for?? Get rid of them. Some aren't qualified for their position anyhow (Science; since when do home ec teachers qualify for head of SCIENCE department??).

Academic Distress Commission coming to Youngstown schools

What do expect when you have a Home Economics teacher as your Science Curriculum Supervisor and other unqualified people running the curriculum in Younggtown City Schools. Look real close at the administrative appointments and the dead weight in Irene Ward Building and their qualifications and you'll see why this boat is sinking.

To say thanks, Nemenz will offer refreshments Saturday

How many of Nemenz's employees solely have families to support? Need benefits? How many of his employees have benefits off the government or a family member?

Employee empowerment is the gift your forefathers gave you to get that education to make that income where you don't need that union to criticize.

Next time you fork over your hard earned pay check to Nementz, look at his employess and wonder if they need benefits or will need them; or enough income to sustain themselves as you do.

Are pickets picking on Henry?

Since when in the Mahoning Valley has "union" become a dirty word? I am a professional but proud my father and grandfather were union. Go back to your history books and see why unions in the 1930's were formed in the first place: unacceptable working conditions.

Mr. Nemenz should look at his bank account and think of every person that punches in and/or walks through his doors who is struggling in this economy.

Grant to aid environmental education

Funding schools??
Look at the pork barreling first. Curriculum supervisors...for what? Admin. assts. speaking to curriculum...since when?
Teachers and school administrators are schooled and trained to set curriculum. These supervisors are the biggest waste of tax payer $$$. Look into what they do and you decide (especially Youngstown schools who really need the cutbacks)
How many of these "supervisors" are are milking taxpayer $? Every school system has one (if that), but why so many in Ystn??
