"Bernadine Healy now writes a blog for U.S. News & World Report, and in her most recent posting she comes out very publicly in favor of “more research” on the link between autism and vaccines. Actually she’s been singing this tune for quite a while – she wrote a similar article a year ago. Healy’s argument is that she is in “the crossfire” in this debate, and she wants to pretend that she’s just being reasonable, trying to mediate between two passionate advocacy groups. “These are all reasonable issues, and considering them with some flexibility would go a long way to resolving many of the frictions aired by Larry King.”
What?? [Excuse me while I take a few deep, calming breaths.] Dr. Healy, do you seriously believe that we should let Larry King determine the direction of public health research? How the heck did you ever get the job of NIH Director? (Actually, this is easy to find out – she got it because she was a prominent Republican – unlike other NIH directors, she was never a highly-regarded biomedical scientist. She went on to run, unsuccessfully, for the U.S. Senate. She only lasted 2 years as NIH director. She later became head of the U.S. Red Cross, but only lasted 2 years there as well. End of digression.)"
It would be wise to research your source a little in advance. It appears you've backed the wrong horse.
As a Steelers fan that has been with them through good times and bad I would welcome you to become a fan of some other team, preferably far, far away. Your childish words are embarassing to true Steelers fans and you seem to think that by trying to insult, intimidate and ridicule Browns fans that you will somehow feel superior. The Steelers- Browns rivalry produces a lot of banter between fans, but in the end mature people know when enough is enough. Don't worry though, they'll teach you about maturity and manners in more detail once you get into 4th grade. Go Steelers!!
Our company looked into buying wind turbines to produce at least part of our electricity needs. It doesn't even come close to paying for itself without at least an 80-85% government subsidy. Even with the subsidies, those big windmills you see along some highways are now starting to require drivetrain maintenance and repairs that are very expensive and killing the return on investment. Just like the ethanol debacle, clean energy is the latest hot topic for politicians to try to sound relevant and concerned about the environment. I'm in favor of funding for research for alternative energy, but we're not at the point where these technologies are ready for prime time just yet.
The chief (whom I respect very much) says "That’s a 15 percent reduction in the force." The city officials need to consider the following reductions:
Sekely Industries.........gone Solartec......................gone Eljer...........................gone American Standard......reduced Salem Label................gone Butech Bliss...............reduced
These are the reductions in force that our city should be most worried about. Of course, our mayor had this to say "the city may also try to bring in new businesses". May also try???? Who is this guy?? The city as a whole isn't what it used to be. Everyone is "reducing". We don't need more government. Start making the cuts that Nestic has suggested looking into before you come to the already strapped taxpayers for more money to squander.
WOW Dexy!! The anger and hatred ooze from your post. I've travelled internationally for business for 29 years now and I've been to every country in Europe, every continent except Antarctica and a total of over 50 different countries worldwide. I hate to disappoint you, but the term "American" is very commonly used by foreign nationals to describe us. I've never heard a Canadian or a Mexican referred to as an American. We shouldn't have to Press 1 for the language our country is based on...... English. You should maybe consider pressing "2" for El Stupid Asso... Maybe you can go back to Taco Bell and learn some more fun spanish facts.
"Hanlon said the teens were armed with baseball bats and tire irons "
If this turns out to be true, it may not have been a case of shooting blindly into the dark. How far away were the young men when the incident took place? In law enforcement, there are clear relationships between distance and threat level. Any cop will tell you that the closer someone gets to them in a threatening situation, the higher level of response they are permitted to use.
If 4 young men are marching up your driveway with weapons of some sort, there is a genuine threat of serious physical harm. Do you think that she should have closed the front door and hoped that they would just ring the bell and go home? These boys were exhibiting signs of being in attack mode. If someone sets foot on my PROPERTY and there is a weapon involved, you better hope you didn't bring a baseball bat or tire iron to a shootout. I'll take my chances with the court system versus the emergency room any day.
Wow Foxtrot. You should consider politics. You have a great knack for picking out only the parts of my post that would seem to support your position. You have some serious anger towards Columbiana. Let me guess. Jealousy, envy? You must live in one of the many perfect communitites in our area. Perhaps Chippewa? I hear it's just as nice as Columbiana...The sunset over the Walmart is lovely this time of year.
Foxtrot, your facts need a little work. The Firestone Farms subdivision isn't some farmer's field being parceled into lots. This is a mature development that has over 50 occupied homes and condos and an 18 hole golf course. I'm afraid your estimate of 15k for the lots is not accurate. Many of these dwellings are around 2500 s.f. and some are over 3500 s.f. The school system is rated "excellent" and the cost of commuting you're so worried about is offset by lower home and auto insurance rates as well as low utility costs from the city of Columbiana.
You did have one correct item in your post. Columbiana is closer to Pittsburgh than most other valley areas. Since the theater, arts, sports, real shopping, museums and true fine dining are mostly nowhere to be found in the valley, it's nice to be close to a "real" metro area like Pittsburgh. The only thing metro about the Mahoning valley is the crime rate. You should consider leaving your house once in a while.

Mikeymike,
I love the saying "he is big enough to see Jesus" May I use it if the occasion arises?
