BREAKING NEWS | Struthers mayor fires detective

The Mayor does whatever he wants. They hire who they want even though they were not eligible to even sit for their own civil service exam. Then when the issue brought up to Atty. Delost when he was on the Civil Service Board, things get lost or overlooked. The Federal Government should step in and stop their corruption, cronyism and nepotism. The evidence is there plain as day. Both Ofc. Lewis and Ofc. Trulio were beyond the age limits (35) to take their civil service exam, but both were hired Full-Time consecutively, blantant violation of their own policy, but the Mayor will do what he does, and that is enforce the policy when it suits his personal agenda.

Decision on suspended Struthers cop expected by next week

You realize this is the same administration that Hired 2 Officers that were allowed to take civil service exams although unqualified, as they called for no one to be over 35 years of age, the last officer and a detective were both allowed to sit and test even though they were not eligible by their own standards. This was brought to the commission and just shrugged off.

UPDATE: Suspect in Burger killing has criminal history

Another "Youngstowner" bringing their crime and blight to the suburbs. Good job to the detectives on their quick investigation and apprehension, now we can pay for the next 35 years for his appeals to run out. Hopefully he can be indicted as a capital offense and if the case is strong enough not offer any plea and force him to trial. It is time to stop allowing them to plead to life sentences in exchange for plea, its also time to end the 2-4 years they spend in our county jail, clogging up what is ment to be a temporary housing situation pending trial or release. Put them on death row, and let their souls be sorted out by the true judge.

Man shot tonight, runs to Youngstown Police Department, collapses inside

Heroin destroys countless lives and family, breeds violence and helps support americas underbelly lets make that illegal.... Oh, wait it is, making a gun illegal or not will not stop the ones who don't care about laws or society to obtain a firearm or anything else thats illegal for that matter, there are laws about driving drunk but yet the OVI rate is astonishing. And no the police didn't tell him (zimmerman) to stop following Trayvon, it was a dispatcher when was the last time you saw someone arrested for failure to comply with a dispatcher who does not go through an academy that teaches civil rights and state/federal laws. It was a personal choice he made, that has impacted his life forever, a young man is dead two families ruined and all people can think about is taking away the second amendment like the brittish, and that its a black and white thing, the evidence as produced by the State precluded that Trayvon was assaulting him in an "MMA style ground and pound" Be it as it is, if some person who you didn't know began to attack you slamming your head into the ground you would have done the same thing, Again as soon as people can go past the he's black he's white thing (actually hispanic) society can move on to be far less racist. Quit teaching your children that beating their wives and selling dope is ok and start producing positive people that want to contribute to society and not live off of public "entitlement" assistance. GET A DAMN JOB.

Youngstown Police Chief Rod Foley, left, and Mayor Charles Sammarone, right, flank seven new police

Nice to see they get rid of one officer but hire his former girlfriend (he was married at the time).... What are the chance of that?

Marine dad keeps watch over Austintown Elementary

Protecting children is one thing, being an over watch is a great and noble idea. There are not only veterans out of work but also police officers, especially in this area with multiple police academies pumping out cadets. Fact of the matter is, an armed assailant should be met with equal force, and showing a militaristic presense in our school systems may sound good, look good on the news, but school zones inside these great boarders should not be manned in that manner. School Resource Officers has always provided an effective measure, but not an ultimate prevention. The State or Federal government should form a seperate organization that provides a minimum number of officers per student population for public schools, although a great expense i'm sure most would be willing to spend a few extra dollars for the safety of our children. Mr. Skok applaud you for your service, but as many have said poor choice on the medium you delivered. If you really want to volunteer your time for security measures join a police orginazation as a reserve/auxillary and volunteer as an officer who has the ability to perform all aspects of police functions.

Boardman considers GPS in township radios

They just need to place in the contract that they GPS will not be used to punish officers, but only to maintain safety of the employee. The officers have a tough enough job to worry about being disciplined for minor issues. I believe Trumbull S.O. put gps in their cars.

Struthers police swear in city’s first female officer

Its nice to know that they abuse their own rules and policies and hired the last one although he should have been disqualified based on his age and now they hire another one who has about a minute of police experience. There were several others on the list that had far more experience than her. Way to go Terry. Dont hire for the good of the city but for your personal agenda! It is obvious they hired her because she is female and not the best applicant.
