Society to mark 'Pretty Boy Floyd's' death in Columbiana County

If they're not glorifying him, then please explain to me why the Historical Society is memorializing the date of his death. What is the purpose? And money - not good enough in my book for a guy known in this area for his criminal activities.

Man who saved kids from fire hailed a hero

It's so GREAT seeing something positive in the media about this young man. God bless him for putting his own wellbeing aside for the sake of these children.

This city should recognize him publicly for his efforts.

Too often we publicize the negative side of life. It did my heart good to hear something uplifting and positive for a change.

Now THAT is a hero, kids!

Lethal injection is inhumane

Hey Ceaman,

It's thinking like YOURS that has put this country in the state it is in. For anyone who has had blood work done, we all know that people are not perfect and sometimes it may require more than one "stick" with the needle. It happens - just like it happens in lethal injection. So, cry me a river for the murderer who got an extra boo-boo getting his just deserts. There are plenty of innocent children with illnesses who get "stuck" like that every single day....would you be so bold as to call their treatment "inhumane"? He's LUCKY he didn't get put to death like they do in other countries!! Better yet, HE'S LUCKY HE DIDN'T GET KILLED THE WAY HE DELIVERED DEATH TO HIS VICTIM!!

And as for the few innocent who die...there are men and women who go to war to fight for their country EVERY DAY who willingly give their lives (it's called sacrifice!) for what they believe in. So, to answer your question about me dying by lethal injection even if I'm innocent.....yes, it would suck but if it would save society as a whole, yes, I would gladly do it.

The difference between you and me is that I actually BELIEVE that if I say something, it applies to me and my loved ones as well. I'm not willing to let people who kill others live their lives as if the people they killed don't matter! Do you want one of these people as your next door neighbor? It could happen, you know. People who are guilty of horrific things actually get out of jail, free to live their lives right next to you - and more times than not, they kill again.

And as for death row prisoners getting take-out meals and all of those little perks we law abiding citizens have to actually purchase out of our hard-earned money - that's wrong too. Prison is not a hotel and they are not a guest. If they want to live among the masses, they have to abide by the rules. PERIOD.

Lethal injection is inhumane

I am sick to death of bleeding hearts who are more concerned with the guilty person's welfare rather than vindication for the innocent life that was taken! Maybe if we made our death penalties even more "inhumane", people who commit these crimes would think again before carrying out these despicable acts. We are a country guilty of allowing our criminals to carry out violent crimes without fear of punishment. Teenage crime is soaring because they aren't afraid of being punished!

The reason this country has so much crime is because we coddle our criminals, allowing them appeal after appeal, rather than carrying out a punishment so swift and vile that it would give them food for thought BEFORE they commit the act. In essence, maybe this fear of pain and suffering would save more people than it would hurt in the end - both victim and abuser.

Where is "humane" in the violence that gets these people the punishment of death penalty? I believe it is more "humane" to inform those who commit these unspeakable acts that if you carry out this crime, you can EXPECT WITHOUT A DOUBT that you will be put to death in the SAME WAY you carried it out on another. One appeal after the original verdict is all you'll get. The end. As a result, this would also free up the courts for others and save county governments huge amounts of cash in food and medical care...not to mention closure for families and friends of the victims. No longer will criminals victimize ALL of us by making us pay for their upkeep.

What could be more humane and fair? If people knew that whatever they did to deserve the death penalty would happen to them, I honestly believe they would think twice before letting their anger/passion/revenge/racism/and the list goes on...get the best of them. I believe crime as we know it would decrease.

And for those of you who worry about the few who die without actually being guilty ask yourself this question: If you had a cure for HIV but a few innocent people had to die in order to get the cure that would protect society as a whole, would you choose to protect those innocent few, or would you choose the majority, aka society? I don't want innocent people to die, but nothing is perfect. We HAVE to make people ACCOUNTABLE for their own behavior!! And an eye for an eye seems to be the most fair way there is to make someone pay for the result of their own violent actions.

(Again, I am talking only about those individuals who get the death penalty).
