Activists complain of inaction by Youngstown school board

Again, I think we are missing the real message. This group along with others are tired of the way the city schools are being handle. Majority of the students in Youngstown are African American, but that isn't why the school system is failing. It starts with family first. Parents need to be more active in their childrens lives and schooling. As for Knightcap, it seems that you have some personal issues with African Americans and Catholic schooling. What you fail to realize Knightcap is that most public school systems have open enrollment which allows the school system to receive additional funding. I believe your relating this to a sports thing which is another topic itself. I went to Ursuline, I'm African American and we paid for my educations and I was also an athlete. I have an college education and a MBA, and those weren't given to me, I earned them. Stop making racist comments and sterotyping. The greater issue is not black and white, but the future of the city schools.

2 Mahoning school superintendents to retire-rehire in new year

I think this should against regulations of pension benefits. Double dipping yes, but what about taking opportunity away from upcoming talent in the education field. Principals, teachers, and administrators have beening doing this for years and its not fair. Its not right!

Ursuline ousted | Kirtland rallies from 24 down

I was at the game and I have to say it was very disappointing. First let me answer jdrn94 statement. Your Mooney Cardinals play the same schedule as Ursuline and was irrevelant this year. Suck it up!
As for the game lets talk about what Ursuline could control. The 2nd half they came out cocky and cold. The offensive wasn't clicking and the defense didn't show up. There were no adjustments made by the coaches and at the end of the day
Rockyroad, UHS should have fought for the win. It shouldn't be a slam dunk. Kemp should have kick the extra point and beat them in overtime.
As for the officials, how can they sleep at night knowing they won the game for Kirtland. Let's be honest. Ursuline had 3 touchdowns called back, multiple questionable penalties and was playing the #1 team in the state. There were no flags when the Kirtland TE pulled the Ursuline linebacker down on that 80 yard run. Or what about the clipping call they miss right in front of the ref on the other long run in the 3rd quarter. I don't care what team it is, no one should lose in that manner. I know personally how they select the officials and there's more politics in that than the government.
At the end of the day, kick the extra point and play it in overtime! Better luck to my Irish next year!

OHSAA: No again to competitive balance initiative

taxme, I tried to get the Floyd brothers, PJ Mays, and about 7 other players from the city to come play with me at Ursuline. We played little league football together and wanted to play ball together again. I also think we miss that part of it. Friends wanting to play with friends. Public schools recruit just as much as parochial and it's easier because they don't have to play thousands to play. Look at Howland, Fitch, and Campbell for example. You don't think they got better over the last 4 years because of the talent in those area do you?

OHSAA: No again to competitive balance initiative

I attended public schools until I went to high school. I choose Ursuline over the public. During that time Chaney, Liberty, Campbell and Girard all called me to come play for them, recruiting!!! My parents felt Ursuline would offer me a better education and diversity that some schools couldn't offer. The thing people forget to realize is that Ursuline and Mooney cost a lot of money!!! Almost $6800. I don't care how good you are, these schools aren't paying out that much in scholarships. Do you think the parents of these students want to pay that much money for a state ring, hell no. Mooney has a strong feeder base of schools where Ursuline feeder schools have almost all been closed. That will explain the division they play in. But we are arguing over COMPETITION. Being the best means you have to play the best. Why is it that Ursuline had the 5th hardest schedule in the state and play in D-V, they want to play the best. People are complaining over the level of competition. And yes Parochial school recruit, so does public schools. How many times have you heard a parent say, "I'm not sending my children to that school because...". Every school system recruits and if they don't it's because the teams aren't attractive enough for the students.

15-year worker pleads guilty to stealing some $80K from Nicolinni’s

Listen, this just proves that America's justice system isn't fair. Your absolutely right psyker99, race has a lot to do with the charges people receive and the time and fines they will pay. I know a lady (she is also white) who stole $15,000 from an organization and got 2 years probation and a $500 fine, really!!! Then last year a black woman stole $2,300 from an organization very similiar and she's doing 8 months in jail, lol. You gotta love the justice system.

S. Side man shot to death in home

Events like this disappoint me in citizens and society. These people don't deserve to breath for they don't respect life and all the freedoms we have. Capital punishment must be establish were when found without a doubt guilty the criminal is put to death 30 days later. Either by firing squad or hanging. It is time to put fear into those who commit murder.
