Dogfighters force miserable, terror-filled lives on Valley dogs

So.....in 150 years the" black community" hasn't moved to far from "Chicken George"? I do not believe the "real" black community would appreciate that characterization!!!!!

State stops liquor flow at Austintown’s Go Go

I don't get it!! I live in Youngstown Ohio where, across the street from me, a "convenience" store has been selling booze for years with an expired corporate charter. Without a valid corporate charter the liquor license is invalid and no one seems to give a sh*t about it. Oh, ya....I forgot.....This is Austintown, not Youngstown. Seems like Mr. Rucci's biggest mistake is locating in the "..burbs". Come to Youngstown, Mr. Rucci, where vice is a growth industry!!!

State schools chief sets higher bar for Youngstown board

Doesn't Mr. Hefner feel for those kids in those failing charter schools? Why is he so concerned about YCS students, yet not concerned about the kids stuck in those charters? The ODE allowed Eagle Heights to reopen under the same regime, with only a name change. Doesn't Mr. Hefner care about the education the kids in the charter schools are getting?

State schools chief sets higher bar for Youngstown board

This is piling on. The level of hypocracy is unbelievable. As a taxpayer in the city of Youngstown and the state of Ohio, I demand that there be an Academic Distress Commission for the failing charter schools that are continuing to be allowed to operate in the City of Youngstown!!!!!

New science-arts charter school to compete with Chaney in city

Now it makes more sense that Catale would call Mosaica. Hmm..... Funny that Mosaica's school only goes up through eighth grade. Charter schools are terrified of OGT statewide tests. They would rather dump their poorly prepared students back on the public school system. I think there should be a moratorium on charter schools until somebody opens up a charter high school!!!!!

School district continues effort to fill 90 teaching positions

I am a teacher. I am paid for 186 days per school year starting the end of August until the beginning of June. I AM NOT PAID FOR SUMMER!!!!!!!! None of us are!!!!!! Because we elect to have our pay stretched to include summer is an accounting scheme, not a PAID VACATION!!!!! Sorry folks, if you don't like it. It's one of the perks of a job that took 20 years of full-time schooling to become eligible for. Stop with the paid summer BS and get the facts right before you criticize. You, too, could have become a teacher. All you had to do was spend 20 years in school!!!! And, also, like to be around OTHER PEOPLE'S CHILDREN!!!!!!

Government Watch: The public sector needs fixing

What the Vindicator doesn't need at a time of decreasing readership, and declining newspapers in general, is an editor who seems bound and determined to piss-off those who still read this paper. If all union workers abandon this paper it will fold. This could happen.

Government Watch: The public sector needs fixing

Dear Todd

First: Saying you"get teacher jobs" because your wife is a part-time teacher in POLAND is like me saying I know all about Hispanic culture because I have a Puerto Rican friend. Second: I refuse to give your editorials any credit until you POST YOUR OWN SALARY!!! Along with your years of experience, benefit package and education level.

Police probe fight between teacher, 55, and student, 14

This is my school. where I am a teacher. These children have special needs and like other schools similar to ours, there are incidents. This is not new or somehow unique to Youngstown. To report on and sensationalize an incident in a school like mine is not news and is a cheap shot. If there was an incident at Fairhaven, or Leonard Kurtz, or Betty Jane in Akron I don't think the Tribune or Akron Beacon Journal would report it as "news". Our school is full of caring professionals who do the best they can everyday. Sometimes it goes badly, most times we make a difference in ways the Vindicator never reports on. Youngstown deserves better.
