One of the reasons that the BOE isn't willing to make any tough decisions on the administration and wages, salaries, bonuses, benefits is that they just don't know the way to say or spell NO. Look at the school districts record of meetings for ALL of 2010 and 2011. http://www.canfieldschools.net/boe/
According to their published minutes, there was not one single....NO vote by ANY board member. At the 5-19-10 meeting there were 2 members that abstained from a vote, but. not ONE NO vote to anything Zambrini and company put before them. You have to question how 5 people could all have the exact same vote on every single issue presented to them in 26 meetings with numerous votes per meeting on issues ranging the entire spectrum of running the school district.
Why do so many posters go to extremes in their responses....JimB No one on this thread has suggested teachers should make minimum wage...Give yourself a break. MANY people live in the canfield school district that don't live in McMansions....or have great cushy fat wallets...get real. Again, its not rocket science. If most of the school district budget (over 80% at a minimum ) goes to salaries, wages, benefits, and the taxpayers have voted the levy down on multiple occassions, then that is where the cuts HAVE to come from. Not singling out teachers, staff, administrators or board members, but across the board. I have faith that Canfield has highly educated, well paid employees, and they will figure out a way to continue educating the students in an excellent manor. If not, lets give other highly educated unemployed people the chance. That is what I believe the voters have said. Now the board, administration and teachers need to implement those cuts needed. And yes I am a Canfield resident and have 2 generations of canfield graduates.
Maybe "those morons" are already feelng the brunt of earlier support of endless requests for more money. "Those morons" want to see the district make the tough decisions, even those decisions that they jump to each time a levy is presented: pay to play, no rides, etc. If most of the cost of educating the children goes to salaries, wages and benefits, then that is where most of the cuts must come from. Its not rocket science. Lets see all these highly educated, highly paid aministrators and teachers figure out how to continue to give our kids a quality education. The majority of taxpayers have voted more than once to see this happen. Now let it happen. IF they show in a year that the education of Canfield's students is not possible,AND they have made serious cuts from all areas of the district budget, then they should come back and ask for a more reasonable amount. NO one wants to see the quality of education decrease, but the vote has shown that a majority believes the district has not addressed the financial issues to the best of their ability yet. I believe the school board, the aministration and the teachers will figure out a way to keep the excellent status of the Canfield School system going forward without the 6+mil levy. If they can't, then lets give other qualified educators the chance. Zambrini and Company, show us that your salaries are worth what we have invested in you. MAKE IT WORK!!
Attis, wouldn't that same biblical comment you made fit well for all those Democrat politicians from Ohio that gave massive pay increases to their staff ......AFTER they were defeated and were leaving office... kinda loathsome conduct if you ask most voters... and its up to those that VOTE to take them out of office... Oh , yeah. they DID. Or also to the Democrat legislators in Wisconsin that ran away from their duty to represent the voters..kinda loathsome there too.
To Attis, Please at least try to verify your information before making such statements.... Maybe Lincoln would agree that labor is the most important, but don't deitize him for remarks not attributed to him nor base your argument about repugnant politicians on a false quote! There are many repugnant voices on both sides of the issue.
Dozens of quotes like this are catalogued in the Oxford University Press book entitled They Never Said It: A Book of Fake Quotes, Misquotes, and Misleading Attributions by Paul F. Boller, Jr. and John George. Several examples follow:
“All that loves labor serves the nation. All that harms labor is treason to America. No line can be drawn between these two. If any man tells you he loves America, yet hates labor, he is a liar. If any man tells you he trusts America, yet fears labor, he is a fool. There is no America without labor, and to fleece one is to rob the other.”
Canfield schools leader: Tough choices ahead
I know one decision that will not be tough for many voters in Canfield. Voting YES to getting board members that can say NO at least once in a while.
