UPDATE: Cafaro must perform 150 hours' service

Please, please, PLEASE quit saying that the Cafaros are from Hubbard. NONE of them live in the City of Hubbard. Despite all its faults, Hubbard is still a nice place to live. We don't need thre stigma or stink of the Cafaros (most specifically JJ or Capri) hanging on our city.

J.J. Cafaro pleads guilty in Akron, taken to jail

First Capri Cafaro, as "president" of U.S. Airways, claimed she knew"nothing" about her father's bribes of which he was found guilty. Then she claims to know "nothing" about the extra 10 grand illegal contribution to her campaign fund. One of only two things can be true. Either she is lying or she operates in such an air-headed insulated vacuum that she really didn't know. IN EITHER CASE she is rendered unqualified to be in the Stare House and, as the last vestage of the Marc Dann disgrace, should resign. As an aside, she claims to have spent well over a million dollars of "her own money" in one of her failed attempts to get elected. Where did THAT money come from? Remember, she was raised in a family atmosphere where graft and bribes are considered OK and just a way of doing business. What do you think?

Two former Dann aides sentenced in Columbus

The only piece of Marc Dann's fallout that hasn't been cleaned up yet is Capri Cafaro. She was soundly rejected by voters twice but was appointed to the state senate anyway on Dann's strong recommendation after the Cafaro family made a large "campaign contribution" to Dann. I think we all know by now the reputation of payoffs and graft that is a Cafaro family hallmark. Remember that Capri Cafaro was raised in this atmosphere where payoffs and political corruption are considered OK. It is time for her to resign while she still can.

Hubbard native sworn in as new mayor tonight

Hubbard could save a lot of money by hiring a good superintendant for the electric, street and water dapartments. He would more than pay his own salary by controlling overtime and scheduling employees more efficently. Who ever heard of a successful city, or business for that matter, where employees work at maximum efficiency without a boss or supervisor. It is a ridiculous thought but that is the way Hubbard departments are running right now. A good superintendant would see to it that employees did actual work during the 40 hours they already get paid for instead of waiting for the weekends and holidays to make overtime. A good supervisor would run the departments in a professional and businesslike manner, not the haphazaed way things run now. A good supervisor would schedule employees on a fair and even basis instead of sending all the overtime to a priviledged few. And, most importantly, a good superintendant would NOT be a relative to any of the employees he supervises. In short, a good superintendant could save Hubbard a lot of money. Let's hope the new mayor sees it this way. He comes from a business background and must be able to see the folly of the status quo in the city. Hubbard has some good employees, they just need some direction.

Hubbard’s new mayor to be sworn in Tuesday

Mr. Keenan was "elected" not by the people but by SIX members of the Democratic Precinct including votes from himself, his father and his brother. On the state level we are represented by a woman who was soundly rejected by the voters TWICE but her rich father, himself a convicted felon, arranged for her to get an appointed seat in the Ohio house. Why do we even bother to have elections? We wish Mr. Keenen good luck. He is inheiriting a city in a real mess. The unsupervised city departments are rife with overtime abuses.

Driver says she blacked out before hitting school bus

The real truth may never come out on this one. Remember it is being "investigated" in Warren where things have a way of falling through the cracks or just being forgotten about. Whatever happened to the "investigation" into the arson fire that killed a woman in Warren this year?. That amounts to murder since the fire marshall determined that the fire was cauised by arson. Whatever became of that "investigation"? Did it uncover the wrong people?

Car hits school bus in Warren, 18 taken to hospital

The driver of the car that rearended the stopped bus was not named nor was the age given. Was it student driving to school or somebody going to work? At that time of day it could be either. Is it possible that driver of the car was distractred by talking on a cell phone or texting?

Youngstown was trimmed from proposed casino sites

Let's be realistic. We can get to a casino in Pittsburgh from here in an hour. We can get to a casino in Erie in an hour. We can get to a casino across the river from East Liverpool in an hour. We can get to a casino in Washington, PA in less than two hours. Soon there may be a casino near New Castle only a half hour away, there is already OTB there. To expect that people from this part of Ohio will drive four hours to the other side of Columbus or over 5 hours to Cincinnati just to keep their money in the state is foolhardy. The folks running the media blitz that tells us about all the Ohio money that will now stay in Ohio must think the voters of this area are stupid. Let's face it, most people are inclined to go to the easiest casino to get to regardless of what state its in. As for the FOP endorsement, who do you think will represent and staff the security forces in the casinos? And the 34,000 jobs being touted and the money being touted is based on FOUR casinos operating and is the result of a single study done by a group in Cincinnati. Listen carefully to the fast talk and read the small print. Two of the casinos are still in the dreams-on-paper stage, only two will be built immediately in Columbus and Cincinnati. And about half of those "34,000 jobs" are temporary jobs, and some of the others are part-time and minimum wage. Try to get a proponent of Issue 3 to tell you how many PERMANENT jobs will be created by the two casions that will be open on the forseeable future. Ths number is substantially less. Local people who want even a chance at these jobs will have to leave this area unless they want to commute to Columbus or Cincinnati. Vote as you will but don't be snowed by the "facts" spouted by both sides on radio and TV. Like they say: READ THE ISSUE then vote as your common sense tells you, one way or the other. And face the fact that there will probably never be a legal casino in the Youngstown area, we are already surrounded by casinos. The decision is yours. Please just think first.

Niles officials, residents voice concern about cell-phone ban

How did we ever get through the day or travel from place to place before we had cell phones and texting? I guess nobody drove then? Somehow we survived. Needing to text or have inane conversations on the cell phone in the car or store or in a restaurant or theater is more than poor manners, it is an addiction not far removed from drug addiction. Many people can't supress the uncontrolable urge to text or talk on the cell phone whether it is important or not. Is the cell phone today's security blanket? Some people use the excuse that they are in sales and need to talk on the cell phone while driving. Bull! Sales existed succesfully long before there was the cell phone, a good salesperson doesn't need this crutch. If it is absolutly crucial that you talk on the phone while driving at least don't be so cheap that you can't get a hands-free unit. And it isn't about "rights" either. If you want to endanger yourself that's your business but you have NO right to endanger others with irresponsible actions that take away your attention while driving.
