its amazing how they investigate an obvious suicide at a predominately white school but deaths at schools like wilson/rayen/east were never a focal point of law enforcement. Before any of you comment on how these were good kids and how maybe the kids from the latter were probably bad, just know I attended these schools and some of these death were from very good kids at the wrong place at the wrong time.
well played foxtrot...well played....but the little wayne concert at the chevy center was a success..not a stitch of violence..a couple no shows...but a calm night...i see we're going to be apples/oranges on this...i have to be on the lookout for more of your posts
oh! and building on our already industrial zoned land will create jobs for all the plumbers, construction workers and other people normally involved in site development... I mean they sure decided to build a convocation center...but for who? if its for youngstown why not have some urban entertainment there...Me and my colleagues tried to get the chevy center for a concert or a comedy show and we never got a call back...but i bet if they wanted to have the ice-capades(spelling) there or yanni i bet we'd see ads for that in the vindy soon. Who in the urban neighborhoods even watch arena football...or wrestling...or HOCKEY!!...these are all for mostly the suburban demographic... but why not have something that will draw the urban kids in...then MAAAAAYBE they would have something to look forward to something to want to go out to get a job and get money so they can attend...
ok as with anything that a generation represents ie; baby boomers, there will soon be a decline, but to have the audacity to want to demolish a whole side of town for industrial parks? PLEASE!!! Have you even drove around youngstown? You probably USED to live here 10 years ago and haven't been back since. Do you see how many decrepit buildings there are in the already industrial area we have? Why not revamp or rebuild those? See I see that you are up on your current events and politics... Im not talking politics, I'm talking people. I'm plainly stating that its absurd for you to suggest to tear down an area to build for industry to "create jobs" when, 1. Where do you think the people will move to that get pushed out of their homes to create said jobs?( I mean, why "create jobs" when there are no workers to fill the positions) Nooo you want to move out the lower class people to get area to create jobs for middle class, Lake Milton, McDonald, Austintown, Boardman, etc. men/women to fill. Now. mind you, I agree that many people from the lower class areas in Youngstown are either uneducated or under-educated and shouldn't be expected to run a company or be a foreman (immediately) but its not the lack of jobs in the area. It's the lack of skills and/or the desire to acquire the skills OR and it really hurts to say this in 2009, the fact that many in the lower class are Black or Hispanic and are sometimes treated like they are incapable to handle a position straight from the gate. Before you decide to comment on the last statement, I'm not trying to turn this into a racial thing, but it is what it is. If employers didn't have the tendency to be biased when it came to race, color, sex, culture, there wouldn't be a need for Affirmative Action Programs or for employers to boast on their applications "We are an Equal Opportunity Employer". Like I said before, if you were from the south side, or even from youngstown at that you'd be less apt to condemn a WHOLE side of town just because we have some people who don't care about the quality of life. I'm Youngstown born and Youngstown bred and I can honestly say that I know more honest ( not necessarily hard working) than I know knuckle heads and I'm from the worst era of our city. The time when bloods and crips roamed, the time when we had over 55 murders in 1995, the era of the crack baby. Now we have those crack babies or the offspring of a crack home having babies. But that's another story
foxtrot, before you decide to create your own census pertaining to the south side, I think you should think about this. First off, are you from the south side? If so then you would have a better assessment of the people that dwell there. Everyone that lives there aren't on SSI and welfare and don't pay taxes. I grew up on the south side, Delason to be exact. My grandmother still lives there. #1. Not on welfare or SSI, she survives on my grandfather's pension from the mill he used to work at, as do many grandparents do. #2. We have a lot of retired GM and Packard workers living there. There are MANY good people living in Youngstown and most are accustomed to their surrounding and live by the older credo, "Don't mess with them and they won't mess with you". Just because there are young bucks out there running and ripping does give you the right to want to tear down honest peoples homes. I went to school with the Shuler woman in question , from Hillman to Rayen, and I can attest that she always was in some sort of quarrel with someone. I love Youngstown for making me the man I am today. Just like the New York motto says, "If you can make it here you can make it anywhere".
