Read again. And read it right this time....not Wellsville.... Wells Elementary in Steubenville. 20 minutes from each other but VERY different places and school districts.
Believe it or not, the schools down there are decent. The teachers do a great job trying to keep the kids educated up to the state standards and ready for those state tests. They have something down there that soo many schools up here lack - community support.
I agree that it needs to be maintained better - it seems like as soon as it snows you hear that 711 is shut down due to a wreck
It also has to be said that folks need to slow down on it in good weather so they most certainly need to use better sense in bad weather! I rarely travel that way so I don't know how bad it gets first-hand when the weather turns nasty.
However I did happen to be out that way about a week ago - going in between 55-60 (speed is only 55 on that road) people were flying by me like I was sitting still. Those bends and curves are not meant for that kind of speed... especially if during bad weather they are not being cleared good enough.
It's comforting to know ALL of the stupidity doesn't reside here in the valley.... however it is just as scary to know that it's as widespread as it is.
Like several have said on here... the real issue at hand is being overlooked by worry about a school name.
The Youngstown City Schools are in serious trouble. People have lost sight of what is important... these kids need educated, they need controlled (by parents and school together). They need guidance not a bunch of adults bickering over the schools name.
Something I have to add here... we wonder why kids act the way they do? Well if their parents are acting the way some of the commenters here do... where do you think they learn their disrespectful ways from? Shouldn't they have some good adult examples?
Back when I first moved into this area - I had very little money and no car. The bus was what I relied on. If not for the bus - I would have lost my job.
Are there things that could be improved upon... well yes of course. Just like everything else and everyone else.
There is ALWAYS room for improvement and ALWAYS need for improvement (as some of you personally prove here with your behavior)
Push to get what you think is wrong or needing improvement fixed. Do you think sitting here and complaining about everything on vindy.com is getting anything accomplished? Some of you have intelligent valid opinions and arguments... get out there and voice them instead of arguing with a couple of know it alls and uneducated fools.
Here we have a woman, a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a grandparent, a friend.... dead. ANOTHER life lost... ANOTHER senseless crime ---
My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of this woman.
Yes I agree that something needs to be done, I wish I knew what though... then again if I knew the right answer... lol I'd be in charge of things right? But I don't know so I put my hope into the elected officials -- if they can't make a difference then maybe it'll show in the next election. I hope all of those who are out there complaining and want to make a change make it to the polls during each election..... until then -- what can WE do as a community to try to keep people safe??? Any ideas?
Why can't they just hire based on ability, skill and qualification? I don't care if you are white, black, hispanic, female, male or have 3 heads.... if my house is on fire I want to know that the most qualified, trained firefighter is the one out there fighting for my home. Same goes for the cops -- these men and women are out there risking their lives....it should be the ones that are most fit for the job, no matter what race or gender they are.
If someone is hired based more on their race or gender rather than their qualifications for the job... everyone is at greater risk.
Willard Ave SE in Warren between East Market and 422. The potholes were bad after last winter... but through this summer since Little Ceasears Pizza opened up and the drive through place opened at the new light at the 422 end of Willard, there are now tractor trailer trucks going up and down the road 3-5 times a day. It has seriously started taking a huge toll on the road!!!!! It ought to be a mess by this spring... between those big trucks, the snow and ice and the plows.
I grew up in a "union" household... my dad is a union laborer, and when I was young and worked at the local grocery store, I was union too.
I am all for unions (when they actually work, and create jobs..)... but I am also for where ever you can get a job... union or not ... take the job. I hate to see people out of work because of the union vs non union fight. Isn't unemployment high enough?? Do we really want to drive business into the ground and now have even more people out of work? Really??

Just a thought.

Tell us about your streets! How did the plowers do?
We live on one of the streets in Niles down where Fairhaven School is.
Did a plow come down there??? Considering there is a school down there - the roads are horrendous!
I hope with the additional snow that we are expecting it will be cleared a little better. The buses can't even pass each other in some spots!

Youngstown council wants more info on how firefighters, cops are hired
I second that Harley_Guy

Just my two cents.
