db, Read the article. The voluntary austerity program is only for exempt administrative staff, i.e., nonunion. Faculty and staff already made huge concessions in contracts. Personally, I find it the YSU leadership mostly laughable and sometimes unconscionable. At any rate, read the article before you comment.
The Anderson-Khawaja administration is shameless and punitive. They are losing the entire university - first the faculty and staff, and now the students. And the Board members are the worst ever! Fire the bunch of them. I have no confidence in their leadership nor on the Anderson-Khawaja administration.
Wrong question, Vindy. The right one is" Should faculty strike if President Anderson's administration does explain to faculty two things: (i) why the Board of Trustees rejected the concessionary terms of the fact finder's report and (ii) what contract terms the Board will accept? Faculty already accepted a pay cut. So that is not at issue. Vindy keeps trying to pull YSU down. Why do you do that?
Mr Franko, You made her an issue, when you should not have, and now when others write you about her you say "you see." You're making everybody's spouse a potential victim and proving Russo right on standards at Vindy!
Mr Franko, I do think you hit a low. Your making issue with John Russo and go on to attack his wife. That's low and you should apologize. Stick to Russo.
There is no $9.5 million budget deficit at YSU. To confirm this claim get your hands on a copy of the budget submitted two weeks ago to the Board of Trustees. If enrollment goes beyond anticipated level, there could be a budget surplus.
Statements above by Jessiedavid, redeye, palbubba, jay1981, and 2muchtax illustrate an important problem seldom addressed, namely, many whose comments on websites criticize, offend, and disrespect do so behind the protective veil of an anonymous userid.
Some months back when Rep Hagan mistakenly used an offensive term, he publicly apologized on the radio. He is as a person sufficiently serious and reflective to realize and acknowledge a mistake and insult. Yet, some members of this site, e.g., Jessiedavid, jay1981, and the others named above, in the anonymity of their userid insult and deride, but do not have half the guts. Own and be responsible for what you say. Use your real name when you speak. Only cowards hide.
And so police officers and fire-fighters are a "fouled-mouthed" and "typical mob." Pay attention. Chamber made a mistake, YSU administration made the same mistake. They should stand on principle - the basic right of people to unionize. Fireline, Inc did and Turning Technologies might, so too will others. They are right, Chamber and YSU administration are wrong. Knockout punch in the ninth round come November.
The embargo is renewed every so often in Congress. To ensure an affirmative vote, the US-Cuban Democracy Pact contributes to Republicans and Democrats alike so long, and only if, they vote to retain the embargo. My representative, Mr Charles Wilson, is one of them. He takes the allowable limit in contributions from the embargo lobbyist yet he hardly knows that his vote deprives his constituents, Ohio farmers and manufacturers a trading partner in Cuba. In the past I have called Rep. Wilson's office, left messages, and sent letters - no response. He rather take the money than reflect on the effects of his vote on his constituents and state. Sadly, The Vindicator is as willing as Mr. Wilson to stay ignorant of the facts.

Should Youngstown State University faculty go on strike if they don’t get pay raises?

Morley, Lin donate $100,000 to groups with ties to downtown
I have long admired the civic commitment of Anita Lin and MIchael Morley. Both set an example for the rest of us. Thank you.
