Mr. Sweetwood...Would it not be of interest of the Vindicator to do a story on the facts. Teachers pay 5% towards their healthcare. Administrators pay nothing. Teachers pay 9% towards their retirement getting additional 15% paid from taxpayers. Administrators pay nothing towards their retirement (STRS) taxpayers pay 24% towards their STRS. That 24% is of their current salary.
From what I understand, the average salary of a CSB worker is approximately 32k. Which is not a whole lot of money for what they do. The fact that we are now going to make an example out of them is not right. When you the tax payer and voter pass levies, where do you think the majority of the money goes.Unless it is a specific levy designated for permanent improvement, it is placed in their general fund which most likely consists of salaries and benefits at a rate of at least 80% of their budget. Now that the levy has passed and now that they are scheduled to get raises, this is a surprise. Local school systems have been doing this for years, and yet nobody is complaining. You people need to understand where you tax dollars are being placed and used prior to voting. Once the levy is passed...all bets are off.
When is vindy.com going to pull the special online section for Kelly Pavlik. In the article his dad states and I quote "his son was the biggest star in his hometown of Youngstown and he was ubable to handle the trapping of fame" Please...there are quite a few sports celebrities to come out of Ytown that have not gotten the press he was fortunate to get. Amazing that the story is on the last page of section A. Why dont you do a story on the closing of his 13th round. When it opened it was front page news.
You endorse all school levies. Then you come out with this article on November 2nd. What about STRS ???Do you realize how many administrators in the local school system are double dippers. Why dont you write about that. Approximately 80 to 85% of all dollars within a school system go to wages and benefits and yett yhe Vindicator endorses all local school levies and then beats up on public officials. There are some superintendents in the Mahoning County making over 200k annually when you total their current pension, there current salary and benefits. Why dont you write about that. Batchelder is small potatoes to others who are milking the system here locally. Do your homework !!!
Typical vindicator....endorse all levies in last Sundays paper and then begin to write articles bashing what state employees earn starting in next Sundays paper. Why dont you guys investigate anything before you print it. Must be nice to be the only paper in town
What STEP increase did they get this year ???? They may have taken a 1% pay cut, but they also may have gotten an annual STEP increase of 4% to 5%. The vindicator should ask if this is part of their bargaining agreement before they write this article.
