Oh and by the way, Other side after graduating ivy league, I have actually done okay, want me to sent you some lobsters and caviar so that you can really know me?
If you could do what you pretend to teach, the market would reward you with a higher salary There's no bluff-- the public teachers are LOSERS and under the current environment all deserve to be let go.
Highly qualified? stop smoking all that dope, it is rotting your brain!
Oh and for the record the President was never a "full time lawyer". He was a summer clerk at a large Chicago firm but neither he nor his spousal unit were able to stick with it. In fact, she has lost her bar membership in Illinois, care to guess why?
I would not call the folks that teach now the best and the brightest. There may be exceptions and God bless those few, but the majority are incompetent. consequently, the product they turn loose after 12 years is not competitive.
If we compare the objectively measureable performance of public school kids with private -- in any state in any grade -- the private school kids score better and have better outcomes.
A better title for this conference would be "Protecting the Salary,Benefits and Retirement Gravy Train for Public Education Thugs"
Face it, its not about the kids for publicly paid parasites, it's about getting your retirement at 55, your 3 months off (plus lots of extra "work days" another farce) and your pay for anything health insurance.
If just one of you sluggs would at least have the courage to admit it, then maybe we could make some progress.
The solution is and always has been to eliminate civil service laws and public employee unions, then the employment and benefits will adjust to what the market can afford.
In your region, the government employees -- yes including the PRECIOUS teachie-weechies have gotten fat and lazy and cost more than they produce.
I am a graduate of Y-town public schools and let me tell you all of those people without exception were scum and treated the taxpayers, the kids and the parents with disdain and disrespect. They were on strkie probably 5 of the 12 years I was in school. With pensions and a 9 month job they retired comfortably on the backs of a declining city's population. If anything it is worse 30 years later. I say fire them all and start all over with people who actuallyWANT to work.
About 4 or 5 years ago, the fiscal officer for the school district stole money (later claiming he gave it back, hilarious) and was let off the hook. LAst year, Steal-or-tino got the same break.
Need to just deal wth reality, 3rd and 4th generaton people from the big Y think stealing a little from the kids or taxpayers is ok, especially if the perp's last name has a lot of vowels in it. After all they are entitled, right?
unlike the guy three comments above, I never liked your columns until now. I am almost ready to believe you may have a working brain( and heart) after all. Still not completely convinced yet.
Earnie, usually in your columns you pout about something. That seems to be missing here...did you forget that part or are you turning over a new leaf?
Can't adopt your construct, but in my view, legislators are and should be part time employees. We could encourage this by returning them to part time rates of compensation. But we are off topic a bit, the person at the top claims we should not be able to voice our criticismsof our elected officals, so under THAT CONSTRUCT your allegations about the 4 Senators would presumably also be forbidden. See how dumb laws would cut both ways?
If you all succeed in this lunatic censorship drive, what will fill the afternoon airwaves in the big Y? Should we bring back Trade-Dee-O? Wheres that idjut Dan Ryan these days, can't we just prop him up and take a have him take a few callers ?
I think the first topic that ought to be discussed, post Rush is how fast Bobby the H actually hit the deck when that kid punched him when the H was booty callin' at the Lemon about 2 years ago!
Public employees get their perks

Forum Monday to focus on protecting public schools from privatization
