Technology, technology, technology. Do you not suppose that for .1 million dollars you could have hired someone to craft new springs and levers that would have kept the old analog machines running for another 50 years? And kept local people working? Sheesh.

“Some people are going to pay more for health insurance, but most of the eligible people will pay less,” he said.
I am one of those people. I have been paying for my own insurance, some call it Health Care, I call it insurance. I have what my parents would have called Major Medical. Now my plan is no longer offered by my insurance company. They have generously moved me to a plan which, starting Jan 1,, will increase my premiums by 54%. My co-pays and deductible go up too. Insane.

I have seen this story time and time again on the interwebs. What I believe is this: They are not installing a "Smart Meter." It will not turn off any appliances, it will not report to Big Brother. I bet she has had a wireless box on her gas line for years. I also bet she has a cell phone strapped to her ear for a couple of hour a day, the rest of the time it is in her pocket. I would suppose that is worse, health wise.

What about the taxidermy option? We have thought for years about how our cat should be posed. Sleeping comfortably in her basket is probably how she will end up. Most of our friends think we are nuts . . .

Asbestos. Even if they flee to the 'burbs it will still be in the building. What happens then? They abandon and the City will, at some future point, have to deal with it? Or it will remain part of the diocese and left to rot for lack of funds? Either way it will be another blight on the community. Fix it and use it. Win/Win.
