Trumbull officer being sued in federal court over Tasering

Tasers will never be banned in this country. The amount of officer involved shootings have plummeted thanks to the use existense of the taser. And yes, the taser is most certainly a non-lethal weapon, in fact more so than the asp baton. Using an asp on a person is literally beating them with a steel rod, one slip up and strike to the wrong part of the body and it's lawsuit city. Deploying the taser is not only safer for the officer, but proven much safer for the violator in terms of escalating use of force. OC spray (censoredship)? Yeah it works on most people but if you have ever been sprayed, you'd know that it takes several minutes to set in and the fight will be on for those few minutes! Chances are the officer is going to get exposed too and take him right out of the fight which is why many departments are eliminating oc spray all together. Granted the taser should not be used until warranted, it is the greatest tool in law enforcement and will be for a looong time to come. Things will happen and people will get hurt, but luckily for them we live in the United States where there are more attorrney's than we know what to do with! And just a question censoredship, but just curious as to what information you have that leads you to believe that officers aren't being properly trained other than newspaper articles telling us how an officer is getting sued? Bottom line is, if a person isn't decent enough to keep themselves in line, sorry about their luck!

County rescinds coroner office layoffs

Any chance the county could justify to the tax payers the reason they pay out 63K to a 15 hr per week position. Sounds like a bit of an overhaul is in order.

CRASH AFTERMATH

I'm an officer in the Dayton area and I can tell you that I've never seen a coroner come to the scene of a fatal traffic accident for the purpose of identifying victims. However, I can't imagine one of our coroners not bothering to respond to the morgue to atleast offer their assistance when an accident like this occurs.

This was a disgusting political move and grossly unprofessional on the part of the coroner. Although in my opinion, this represents the negligents of county leadership for permitting an employee to take 60k a year for 15 hours of work per week when the coroner doesn't even have the sense to respond to an event like this. It's just unfortunate that it took the death's of three teenagers to bring this issue to light which also makes a person wonder which other county positions go unmonitored by the commissioners.

Court must OK jail, staff cuts

Economic detriments conservatives have left us with? Maybe I'm just too young to ever remember any conservatives in office in this county! And while I agree with the fact that our economic downturn shouldn't be blamed on liberals, Stan is right, crime is out of control due to liberal policies. Jail needs to be a place no one ever wants to go, not the case in this day and age. Take away amenities, pack them in an actually treat them like inmates and we could drastically shorten sentences and have the same affect that these longer, comfortable living sentences go. Time to practice some assembly line justice, swift and severe. Hopefully one day the Mahoning Valley returns to the bustling place it once was.

Ohio officer fired for speeding gets job back

150 mph is reckless op, a little heavier than a mm. Not the crime of the century but definately stupid. If you were someones boss would you fire him for a traffic incident that happened on his own time?

Defendant shot by Campbell bailiff during struggle

theword

Unless you know this bailiff personally, how do you know what kind of training he's had? Alot of bailiffs are retired police officers, no ccw required. What kind of training do you have to make you think you're qualified enough to comment? I'm sure you it all though. That's beside the point, don't draw conclusions till rest of the story comes out.

Assault witness says Hagan was belligerant one

Come on Bob, man up a little. You popped off at the mouth then got popped in the mouth. I'd imagine you're angry about getting embarassed publicly by actually getting knocked out, but you got what you deserved, you know that! Man up, do the right thing and ask the prosecutor to drop the charges, let this kid finish school! Make us proud Bob, don't be a wimp!

City police investigating South Side man's stabbing death

Youngstown truly is a great town and it's sad to its demise along with many other Mahoning / Ohio Valley towns and hope one day they will be restored.

YPD can't be blamed for these killings. People watch too much CSI on television then wonder why we aren't solving crimes. Two problems exist, number one, crimes can't be solved without the victims interest in solving them, excluding the St Doms muder. People get shot/stabbed nearly every night and the victims don't report, mainly because their culture teaches them to avoid the police and take care of their problems on their own. They retaliate, another murder happens and the police are expected to make an arrest. They shooters in the previous murders will no doubt see their justice on the street.

Aside from that, Youngstowns safety-services need entirely restructured. YPD gets run over with calls on a daily basis and I believe the city is still paying a full time FD? If a city is going to pay a full time FD, than they need to run the cities ambulance services and actually generate some money but that's another discussion.

Bottom line is, YPD numbers need beefed up in a bad way to adequately meet the demand their asked to handle.
