rockyraod...your assuming that the parochial schools are the best to compete against....not so! There are plenty of public schools out there that offer top notch programs to compete against. Also, were Mooneys championships tarnished by anything.....like the R word? just sayin...
C'mon....read between the lines....everyone in the valley can pretty much figure out why this is happening. The R word is always at the center of Mooney's problems. They will deny it and say most of their students come from their feeder catholic elementary's but not all...everyone knows someone that is approached by a mooney person interested in certain player from a public school. Anyone that denies this has bliners on! This stuff is getting old! I'm glad that poland took the stand a few years ago and now Canfiled! GOOD FOR THEM!!! Mooney peopleSTAY AWAY FROM OUR PUBLIC SCHOOL KIDS!!! Leave them alone! Stick with what you got and parents that fall for this crap and want to send their kids to mooney to help create a 'dream team'..wake up! Its high school!!! Play by the rules!!!! To say that open enrollment levels the playing field indirectly implies that Mooney has in fact not been playing by the rules, and now you think open enrollement levels it? No way....first off not all schools have it, second its mostly used by Ytown students for academics and third those that do offer it can only accept students from adjacent districts....Mooney does NONE of that! To say that Canfield is hiding from Mooney is a joke! Dont think Canfield will have trouble scheduling any school in any sport...can Mooney say the same? Good for you Canfield! I hope other schools follow your lead...if OHSAA can fix this problem...leave it to the public schools....we'll fix it OUR WAY!!!
the old school concept of playing ball with the neighbor kids you grew up with is lost....community pride has gone by the way becuase mommy and daddy dont instill these values,,,instead we want to cheat and create 'dream teams' under the disguise of "we want a catholic education"....OHSAA couldn't fix the problem that has gotten way out of hand so maybe this is a new beginning....I thought Poland did the samething with Mooney after a Mooney kid beat up a Poland kid in the parking lot at Boardman High School after an ACT test...let the catholic schools all play each other!!!!
Great idea! Now all other area schools should join in this decision so that the kids that leave their hometown schools ( for whatever reasons :P) will stay where they belong!!!
Exactly! Teachers ARE NOT paid hourly, they are on salary! Good thing because I dont think this nation could afford to pay them by the hour for all the work they do!!! Hours and hours of planning, assessing, evaluating......teaching is sooo much more than the school day. Some of you have NO clue what a teacher does! Those of you who value education and pass that on to your children ...good for you! Others envy pensions and benefits that professionals work hard for...good luck with thinking! That will get you no where...opps....thats where you are anyway!!!
yes....it is a goofed up system and until the state of Ohio improves how to fund our schools, we are ALL victims, teachers pay taxes too! I'm pretty sure they have been at a wage freeze, no cost of living increase, inusrances costs have increased and they have been contributing more toward their pensions. I'm not sure what you mean by teachers "juice" up their salaries unless they coach or have another supplemental position. I don't know what else you expect from them that is logical besides all of the above AND taking on extra assignments with the cuts that have been made. Federal cuts in funding have KILLED schools like Poland, and until this "goofed" up system is fixed, we must step up to the plate and take care of our children, the next leaders in this world!!! VOTE YES!!!
Paul....reading some of your past comments, you sound like a teacher hater! Sorry that you had such a negative experience with them, most are awesome professionals worth WAY more than they are paid! Teaching is truly the most important profession, as it readys the future of all other professions! What would we be without an education....ummm....maybe a miserable blog poster that wants no one that works in the public sector to make a living! Good luck with that sentiment!!!
Sometimes we have a tendency to "cut off our nose to spite our face"....I cant really afford more taxes either but I dont want to lose the value of my home because of a declining school district. Someone paid for my kids to go to school so that is my responsibilty to keep good education going. Unfortuantely people feel that teachers who educate THEIR kids aren't worth it....I sure think mine are!!!!
