UPDATED: Pavlik fight called off

life's too short - to live it with so much hate. by the way, read that whole article by Iole:

"Pavlik raised the ire of enough people to fill a football stadium with his ridiculously short-sighted and flawed decision.

He’s a grown man and he’ll have to face the consequences of his actions.

This decision, though, wasn’t about boxing. It’s about a cry for help, because nothing else makes sense. He doesn’t deserve derision. He deserves pity, sympathy and understanding."

and yes - if they can make a SINGLE dollar off of him, they will. do you know nothing about boxing promoters?

UPDATED: Pavlik fight called off

the point I was making with my previous post was that the money offered was insufficient in this regard: if Pavlik lost in either fight, that's it. He'd never see another big payday. so, at this point in his career - and since he does still have big name recognition and is a former champion - he needs to secure as much as he can because he's getting to the end of his career. 1.35 mil might have seemed enough for his team at one point, but once he found out a different fighter was possibly offered more than double that, he was right to do what he did.

even if top rank is done with him - any other group out there that senses they could make a dollar off of him will snap him up in a heartbeat.

it also seems like a lot of the commenters here understand NOTHING about boxing. they're just here spewing their jealousy-tinted hate. shame on you.

UPDATED: Pavlik fight called off

Pavlik was only offered 1.355 million for BOTH fights. his fight on Saturday was to pay him $50,000! you dont risk your career for that price. also, 1.35 is a joke to fight against Bute. Kelly's 100% right here. If half of the folks in Youngstown would stand up for themselves in this way, alot of you would be better off.

Good for you, Kelly!

Coming to grips with race in America

jd is right. we elected a black man president so racism cannot possibly exist. forget all the emails that passed between the 48% of the country that voted against him that were full of hateful, bigoted material. also, forget the fact that we don't have a single elected senator with black skin.

thanks for enlightening us, jd.

Phantoms give a great show

statistics show that democratic administrations lead to a decrease in the number of performed abortions. while they are pro-choice, they are also pro-education and they fund organizations that make contraception available. the real pro-life vote then, despite the label given to them, is with the democratic party.

Former resident questions Trumbull voters’ motives

The editor rightly points out the 2% Republican shift above, but he ignores the deviation from the 5 point national trend toward Obama (48% for Kerry nationally, 53% for Obama). Therefore, Trumbull's 2% shift toward the Republican candidate, despite the national trend toward the Democrat, represents a 7% total difference.

While the isolated shift seems insignificant, its contrast against the total trend signifies something deeper than a superficial 2% fluctuation that could be easily written off.

Again, even in very red states, most counties in the US trended Democratic. Every county in Montana, Indiana, Utah, North Dakota, New Mexico, and Nevada (all red states in 2004)shifted blue - all while our very Democratic county did the opposite.

Unless there has been a drastic attitude adjustment in the Valley to explain the 7% difference I've described here, Trumbull voted against their situations while the rest of the nation had its back. If it is not the case that attitudes have shifted, then the only empirical evidence to explain the difference is Obama's skin color and the tone of the emails I received from too many Trumbull County residents.
