I don't believe departments should have reserve officers. They work for free, for who knows how long, with the promise of a job, then just let them go. Slave labor if you ask me.
Here is an idea, why not implement the spending cuts the committee found and cut insurance costs by having employees pay something... even if minimal. If Boardman did both of those and saved even more money, maybe we wouldn't need a new levy.
Actually, if a community decreases homelessness, they are more likely to receive additional federal funding. So, the vested interested is to reduce homelessness, not increase it. Furthermore, people working with the homeless want to help stabilize their lives, not increase the number of people that need assistance.
