There is a great story to be told about the Wick Pollack Inn. It was solely the initiative of the BOT and one BOT member in particular. It was approved over the objection of the Sweet administration and contrary to plans developed for the building. This is all in the public record if anyone would care to look it up.
To Jessiedavid---It is Bertrams fault that he takes Cynthia Anderson at face value when many know otherwise. Anyone remember Mayor TwoFace in the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas?
Let see, Harry "the Hack" Meshel keeps a note that offended him from 1994, waits 17 years for the opportunity to get back at the offender, is so proud of the fact that he tells Bertram, and Bertram thinks its so newworthy that this petty story of revenge is a prominent part of his column. Pretty much says it all about Harry the Hack and the state of journalism in the Valley.
The sad truth is that there was a real story behind the enrollment bonus, how it came about, and who was really responsible. Bert and the so called reporters at this "newspaper" could find it if they werent so occupied with writing puffery and so lazy that they write crap like above.
It not the athletes fault that the playoff system is seriously flawed. They can only play the teams they are scheduled against. There are a number of sensible proposals to remedy this situation. Among the best is to make parochial, private and open enrollment schools play one or two divisions above their enrollment. To place Ursuline in a division with largely fixed enrollment small rural districts is a disservice not only to those districts but to Ursuline itself.
To be a good opinion columnist one has to be a good reporter. Opinions have to be based on an analysis of facts, either numeric or otherwise. The great columnists srite columns have at their foundation excellent reporting. They are out there(Tom Suddes for example); just not in Youngstown.
Do the Vindicator editorial writers even read their own editorials? They spend weeks railing against public employee excesses then endorse the candidate of the party of public employee excess. Makes sense to me.
There are wonderful people who live here, great communities, and neighborhoods. People will always come through to help each other. What passes for leadership is what holds this area back. Face it, the Democratic party and unions have held power here and should be held accountable. Instead, of being productive and positive they spend their time attacking and tearing down. Pitiful.

And Bertram de Souza still thinks the Covelli Center is a bad idea. Remember this when you read his other columns.
