Victim of Youngstown church shooting ID’d; parishioners angered

What a sad day in yOUNGSTOWN. My husband was on duty that afternoon, his steady beat is the south side. He says it is nothing but a war zone over there. This shooting was nothing more then the shooter wanting street credit, i guess that is what they call it these days my husband said. It's a shame. My husband sees alot working day in and day out over there but this one hit him hard. I can only hope and prey our police Dpt will flood the south side and not stop until they find who did this. That should have been done the minute it happened. My husband worked a double shift that day staying out trying to follow up on tips. Some one had to have seen or heard somthing. It takes a very evil person to do somthing like this .. I have lived in this city my whole life, my husband serves this city, its a shame to say"it is just not safe anymore.

Vetting failed in YSU trustee selection

I personally know Liz Bernard, and Phil Chance. They are both good people. Lets not forget what a difference Chance made on the streets of this city when he was in office. He was a good cop. That is a thing of the past though. Liz Is a great Attorney, a great ,mom, and an exceptional person. She is is smart, and Phil Chance or anyone else would not have gotten in the way of her committment to her job. This is Y.S.U 's loss not hers. People need to move on and quit living in the past. Sounds like the veteran cop that made that call was alittle jealous!

Youngstown falls to worst in state

The headline in the paper made me sick to my stomach. Both of my kids attend youngstown city schools. They both have made honor roll all of their years in school. I will stress that every teacher my daughter had i loved. They were great teachers, committed to the children, careing. My son had great teachers up until this past year. I did not care for her as a person or as a teacher. But she got the job done and that is all i wanted.Your goign to have your good and maybe not so good teachers. I feel my children have done so well not only because of their teachers, but because of my husband and myself. When homework was brought home i sat at the table no matter how long it took until every bit of work was done and i knew he understood what ever mistakes he may have made. Over the summer twice a week my kids do reading, math, ect... I do believe the parents must get their children prepared. I work in my childrens school during lunch iam very involved so i am there alot. I see alot of kids that are smart but just do not want to do the work listen to the teacher ,ect.. A teacher can only do so much. I think instead of rebuilding all of these new schools they could have used the money for the childrens education. There should be no fingers being pointed. Is there somthing different Wendy Webb could be doing, maybe. So should the parents of the kids that are failing, the children themselves, and maybe the teachers could look at every child differently. Some kids may need more help then others, don't just shove them aside try taking the extra time to help them. I know that is easier said then done. But i have seen some kids just shoved aside because of their behavior. Alot of teachers lost their jobs kids are being shifted from school to school. Whe is it going to stop. Kids need consistinse in their lives. Since my kids have been at their school we have had four different principles. Why? Somthing needs to change and i think the change should come from evryone not just one person.

Murder scene yields surprises

This is a horriable thing that happened to two young men. No one should have to die like that. On the other hand both of these boys were into alot of things that a 19 and 20 year old should not had been in. The police know alot more about the two of these boys then the public knows. One of the young men was the boy last year that was brutally shot over a bad drug deal gone wrong. He had one lung and almost did not make it last year. He obveiously did not learn his lesson the first time he came in contact with death. The boys were cousins. The paper posted they did not seem to be related. Their mothers are sisters. Who ever did this will be brought to justice. And for the two men fishing, they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time when they found them. When is it going to stop. Just that same after noon a six year old was shot in the chest sitting in a car on the South side. My husband was on duty Tuesday and took the call. What a shame people have no respect for life.

Boy, 9, other juveniles and adult arrested in Campbell break-ins

This is such a sad story. I have a son that is nine. I do not think he would ever, ever think about going and robbing some one for somthing that i may not be able to buy for him. I say"no" and he throws a little fit and then gets over it. This child was obveiously tought how to do this. And i can bet they were not taking this stuff all for themselves. I am sure they were going to sale these items for the cash. I fully blame this nine yearolds mother. Why would she even allow this child to be with seventeen year olds. He should have been at home with her riding his bike or watching cartoons.
I'm sorry but i do not believe the tax payers should be to blame because these people are not given enough welfare. Go get a job and collect your welfare if needed and there should be no reason these people are going without. All of these people that committed this crime should be severly punished. I also believe the nine year old should have some kind of punishment. Some one has to show this child if his mother is not right from wrong and there are consequences for every action. Wether he knew it was right or wrong, he will now know that it was wrong. If my son ever stold anything from anyone even a toy from a friends trust me he would know he did somthing wrong. All partys are to blame.

Baby critical after severe beating

This is a sad story. My husband is one of the officers on the case. This monster will be cought, trust me it is already in the works..... Hopefully our justice system will not let this child down. This man should be charged with attempted murder. The mother will not be charged with anything, but i hope this is a lessoned learned to her. You just do not leave your kids with anyone no matter how long you have known them. I have two kids and if they are left with a sitter it is their grandparents and aunt only, period. I do agree if this mother did know this man well enough to let him in her home and around her child, she had to of known he had issues and i personally do blame her for leaving that child with this man. From the posts it sounds like the baby is going to make it Thank God, the sad thing is i do not think this will be the last time this child is put into danger.

Brother and sister shot Saturday on South Side

TB i do agree with you. There alot of people out there that cheat on their taxes. Do i think it is just the rich people out there no. Did i say that only black people are on welfare absolutly not. My comments are not on wether some one is black, white, pink, or blue. Color has no factor in any of this. You can be any color and scam the system, cheat on your taxes, or commit a crime. So no i do not think us white people as you made the assumption are prejudice. I am white, i am not prejudice, nor do i cheat on my taxes or cheat any system. So you really should not make comments about people under assumption. It is us tax paying good citizens that have a right to be mad about the people that do commit these crimes.

FoxTrot, I agree. Get rid of the welfare system. Then just maybe people would have no system to abuse and they can go get a job and then they would not have time to be out on the streets. Instead of sitting back collecting welfare, some trading their welfare cards for drugs and some getting their cards and not worrying about needing to provide food, they go and buy drugs, get their nails done, hair done, buy new cars. I GREW UP IN A MIDDLE CLASS FAMILY MY PARENTS ALWAYS WORKED, NEVER RELIED ON WELFARE AND WE GOT BUY. wE DID NOT HAVE THE BEST OF THINGS BUT WE GOT BUY. aT 16 I GOT A JOB AND HAVE ALWAYS WORKED..... I am proud of the life my husband and i are able to give to our children, they do not go without. but we are teaching them if you want to have things you have to go to work, if you want a good education you must do your best in school. Maybe some of these people were not tought that at a younger age, but they are now grown ups and they should have enough common sense to know right from wrong and what needs to be done to get buy. Alot of them choose the life they live and i have no sympathy for them.

I will say this, Welfare should only be for people who are working as hard as they can, but still are not making it. That is not the case here. More then enough times i have been in a grocery store and have had a women or young women in front of me with a buggy over loaded of grocerys and more then two children with them and they go to pay and they pull out their food stamp card. Yet, The mother has her nails done, hair done, nice clothing, talking on a black berry phone, while her children are visiably dirty, not dressed like her and then they proceed to go out and get into a brand new suv. I se this all the time and i can not stand it. While my husband and i both work and some times still are living day to day financially. While others that are not working are able to live better then us. I believe in giving help when help is needed, i do not believe in giving to people that take advantage of our system that our tax dollers pay for. I am not saying everyone that is on welfare does this, but i have seen plenty of people on a day to day basis that do. Somthing is not right and needs to be done.I also believe in what you do is your choice. It is not all in how you grew up. Yes when your a child you can not help the way you live or dress, but there is a time when you grow up, have common sense, and know right from wrong. So i do not like to hear people whine that it is all they know, bull. Your an adult, you make your own choices, so deal with it.

Raids bring arrests, drugs, cash and guns

Y.P.D did a fine job. As for the food stamp cards jimiohoh, People should not give up which is probably their only means to eat for drugs because that is exactly what they do on an every day basis. The cards will more then likely go back to where they were handed out. It is sick to think these peoplegive their food stamps up which they probably have children at home, and they give them up for drugs. If they do not care if they eat why should any one else care?
