I used to live right across from the Crim's Corner South Ave Gas Mart in the old funeral home up until about October 2009. Later I discovered my landlord was cooking crack-cocaine the entire time I resided there. Thank goodness my girlfriend forced me to leave the South after my getting robbed at gun point scared her to death. That place, that gas mart, that corner, is a breeding ground for violence. Every drug dealer and black market operator from every part of the city congregates there to conduct "business". I witnessed a shooting there in July or August where a man got out of a red Cadillac and started shooting up another guy with a shotgun. Thankfully no one was killed during that episode, but the only person involved who got caught was the driver...He's so f**king stupid that he drove the assailant to the gas mart while, he himself, lived right down the street on Dewey. A friend of mine and myself walked down the street 4 or 5 days later and witnessed the Task Force surrounding his home. So close, and so stupid.
That story is just an example of the problem here in Youngstown. That problem is stupidity. We have young men committing crimes here in ways that are so stupid and reckless they would never be fathomed by any decently smart people. And that's why there's so much violent sh*t happening. Stupidity. Children gotta stay in school, and like some other people on here said, the only way that's going to happen is if the parents get involved. You can't be a junkie AND a good parent. It's one or the other.
And to the majority of the other people commenting on this page...Not EVERYONE in the city is a thug and a drug dealer...There ARE a lot of them. But I know many good people who live in Youngstown...Trust me, the locals are just as nervous about being out on their own streets as visitors are. That's why they don't feel safe without a weapon. And, unfortunately, that's why it's a never ending cycle of violence over-lapping violence.
