Fallout over SB 5 continues for area chamber

I have never seen so much hate for Americans that happen to be in a union. Unions for the most part have been weaken for the last 30 yrs, every since the PATCO strike, where workers were striking not because of money or benefits, but because the airline traffic control system had become unsafe. Granted it was an illegal strike, but these were American workers who felt strongly that their bosses were not listening to safety concerns. Seems history is repeating itself. Recently, we read were airport towers are being manned by skeleton work forces. Cuts have consequences and I for one will not do much flying. The problems still exist.
Now, we have our neighbours against neighbours because of where they happen to make a living. Unions in the past was to be an equalizer against highly profitable & powerful capitalist that had too much influence in Washington. Now we are full circle with the help of organizations like the Chamber of Commerce. For past 30 yrs businesses have been winning. Most union contracts have only increased 3% on average over the years while large corporations demand new hires participate in two tier wage systems. Corporate productivity increased with the cooperation of unions. Productivity is so high many companies can hold off hiring for a two year time span, while making huge profits. They don't do this on their own, its because federal & state governments have reduced their taxes and workers have made concessions. SB 5 is a wedge the republicans had on their agenda. Its their plan that if Mr.Reagan can do it every individual gop governor can do the same. They think their policies will work and by election time we will have forgotten all the extreme measures.

How Kasich team closed $7.7 billion budget deficit

What exactly is the debt restructuring? If Kasich is selling state liquor stores how does he makeup the revenue used to pay state bonds? Or as is usually done by republicans, they pass on the debt to taxpayers.

Valley language courses reflect China’s growing clout

That's a great idea. Kudos to the principle for thinking outside the box.

Ryan-earmarked projects stall out

Austerity during a recession is in wrong direction. Local government will ask for and not receive tax increases. No federal earmarks to spark economy will lead to continued slow, slow growth. Economics is not an exact science, but there are certain basic principles.

Kasich to pay aides more than Strickland doled out

This shows a total disregard for Ohioans and the financial situation. I suppose he thinks those high salaries to his staff are going to trickle down to rest of us. Kasich was elected by Ohio to go into the governors house not rebuild his own. He was elected to control spending not to pay staff higher salaries than the President's chief of staff or a congressman. And remember, he turned away federal stimulus because he thought going from Cleveland to Cincinnati was a train to nowhere. No wonder Lehman Bros went under with people like him making decisions.

Putting the sales tax on the ballot was the easiest part

I agree lower the sales taxes. If the county wants to generate sells and business a lowering of sales taxes is the incentive that's needed. Too often when things get rough the first thing the government wants to do is raise taxes. I suggest going the other way for a change. More sales means more revenue. I personally make it a point to buy in Mahoning and Columbiana counties, if taxes are raised then what's the point of me directing my dollars to businesses in these counties? I could very easily go to the neighboring state where I commute and buy the things I need. The taxes will all be the same.
